We want to ride our bicycles!

A group I'm involved in wants to track how many kilometres are travelled by bike/walking over the summer (rather than driven in a car.) If it's possible, we're looking for a way to track this on our website. So I ride 5k to a group event, I can pop online and add my 5k to our group tally. Maybe there's a graphic representation of our progress? [more inside]

Unofficial evolving MetaFilter group sing-along chord-and-lyric songbook

Problem: You're at a campout or other casual gathering with a bunch of MeFites. Some people have guitars and maybe other instruments. People want to have an old-fashioned sing-along. Sadly, nobody knows all the words or all the chords. What are good resources that can be brought together and cherry-picked to create a printable-for-sharing evolving, unofficial, fun songbook for such an event? [more inside]

What's the fairest way to divvy up multiple options amongst a group?

The "You" in public radio

Pledge drives rely on talking directly to the individual which is part of how radio is personalized to each individual listener. There has been much discussion within public radio of avoiding anything that sounds like it's not talking to the individual since that makes people not feel special as individuals. [more inside]

9/11. Oy. Are there any active online support groups for 9/11 survivors?

Are there any active online support groups for 9/11 survivors? I was in midtown when the WTC was attacked in 2001. That brought on several days of stressful situations for myself and others in the city (evacuating due to bomb threats, going near the site only to run for your life because fears of other buildings falling near the site, etc). I coped as everyone else did in the city, and for the past several years I've avoided most if not all 9/11 coverage. This year, the anniversary passed without me realizing it - but then on the 12th I was reading an article about first responders lobbying congress and it sent me down a rabbit hole of watching (for the first time) life news footage of the attacks. Topics for Elderly Reminiscence Group

I am leading a reminiscence group at the skilled nursing facility where I work and am looking for topics for the residents to discuss. Participants in the group are generally pretty cognitively intact and were born between 1925 and 1935. So far we've talked about where they were born (what it was like at the time and how it's changed), favorite trips they've taken, memories about historic events during their lifetime (D-Day, President Kennedy shot, etc.), and favorite foods growing up, but I'm looking for more ideas about things to discuss. How do I take the first step to resolving a conflict in my band?

I've been playing music with four others, and I communicate well with all of them, except one. It's getting to the point where I'm stressing about it, feeling apprehensive and sad, and ultimately walking on eggshells around the guy. I want things to get better, but I'm concerned our difficulties communicating on a day-to-day basis will be an obstacle in actually starting a conversation about how to improve things between us. Group paper and questions about plagiarism...

I just submitted a group paper. Hours before I ran it through a plagiarism checker, turns out two (!) of the group members had directly copy and pasted sentences from accademic articles into our paper. In total, no more than five sentences were plagiarized These sentences were cited but not quoted directly. I informed all group members who seemed unconcerned...Is this a big deal? Is it worth reporting? (Fwiw, I edited their work before submitting a final copy)

wedding reception activity for tables that people would want to do?

We are getting married and we want to have mini pinata-type things on each table at the reception (11 big tables). We want to put some fun stuff in the pinata (like glow sticks for later on) - including - some sort of activity. We want people to break open the pinata and then have to do something as a table. Not terrible or terrifying, very fun. 5-10 minutes. But what? What are your ideas for fun activities they can do? ALSO, what else should we put in the pinata that is fun and (ahem) cheap? Thank you!

So I'm looking for entree recipes that A: can have meat added on separately at the end, but are also satisfying sans meat B: are easy to make for a large group aka not very time-intensive/time-sensitive/complicated and C: are super-duper tasty. Unimaginative casseroles aren't going to cut it, here. Difficulty: no appliances available other than stove and a BBQ.
