Suit Double Duty

GroomFilter: I'm getting married soon (the groom), and I need two different outfits for the wedding: one for the day and one for the night's dinner. Can I use the same suit for both outfits? In general I never have to wear suits in my daily life (I wear jeans to the office), so I'm not really sure I'd want to spend money on getting two different suits. Instead I've been wondering if its possible for me to use the same jacket and pants for both outfits, but differentiate them in other ways. For example in the day I might wear a white dress shirt with a pleated front and a black bow tie (almost a tux), and at night I'd do a waistcoat and a cravat. The suit will be black.

Will this be pretty much okay, or will it be immediately obvious to everybody that I recycled the suit and am commiting some huge faux pas?

Note that I'm in Asia where Western dress codes and etiquette are less strictly observed (i.e. "formal" usually means tie and a jacket). I guess its okay if some people notice, but not if everyone goes "hey all he did was change his shirt and tie!"

Additional notes: As is customary in my culture, the bride wears her wedding gown during the day's events (solemnization, traditional ceremonies, etc.). A big dinner will be thrown at night and she will first show up in her wedding gown before changing into an evening gown a little into the dinner. I basically need to match her two gowns with outfits of my own. I'm also considering renting a tux, but reusing the suit just seems so much more clever (or potentially stupid).

And yeah I'm aware that usually nobody looks at the groom anyway.

Root beer floats + bicycles = best wedding gift ever?

Help me pick out the best wedding gift ever for my almost-husband. We're getting married in a few weeks, and I want to get him a really awesome gift. He is a photographer, an avid cyclist, a watch/timepiece geek, and loves root beer and chocolate. He doesn't drink, so fancy booze is out. Past gifts that have gone over quite well have been a gift basket of gourmet root beer and snacks, items made from recycled bicycle chains, photography-related items, watches, and Edward Gorey art and books (he's a fan).

So, what I'm looking for, you sexy, smart, and talented Mefites, is an awesome wedding gift, from the bride to the groom, for a really wonderful guy who has pretty much everything he needs and wants as far as his preferences go. I mean, I can just feed him a root beer and some ice cream and he's happy; I need some help finding a creative gift that appeals to one or more of the categories of things that he loves.

We are located in NYC, and local items are a bonus, but online ordering is also fine. Suggestions for making things are also welcome as long as they are small projects that can be easily hidden and don't take much time to complete - we live together, and as you can imagine with an NYC apartment, space and privacy are at a premium, so I can't build him a 6 foot tall sculpture to represent our love. He is, however, at work during the day and I work from home, so something that takes a few hours to make is feasible.

What to put into a "Groom's Survival Kit"?

What should I put into a "survive the wedding planning" basket for the groom? My brother is getting married in May, and I'm looking for a good Christmas gift for him. My concept is a "Groom's Survival Kit" for the wedding planning process. I've found a book on Amazon, but I can't imagine that he hasn't received it already. Yes, there's going to be a flask.

Any suggestions to put into the basket? I'm trying to stay away from putting a bottle of alcohol or something else traditional and am trying to think of something that no one would have thought of. Please help me, MeFi!

How can we acclimate our pug to getting his fingernails clipped?

How can we acclimate our pug to getting his fingernails clipped? We've got a 1 1/2 year old pug who completely flips out when we try to clip his fingernails. He had a bad experience at the groomer as a puppy and since then the only way we can get his fingernails clipped is by taking him to a vet. And then he only lets them do it because he's too scared to do anything else.

So how can we acclimate our pug to us clipping his nails so he doesn't flip out?

Ukranian wedding customs, what to know?

A friend of mine (from the U.S.) is marrying a woman from the Ukraine in a month or so. His mother is throwing her a bridal shower in the States and I'd like to make her feel welcome... As far as I know she has spent limited time in the U.S. and all of it since becoming engaged to my friend. She speaks little English (primarily Russian I've heard) and I'm sure moving from outside of Kiev to Flordia will be a big cultural change for her. Do any MeFis have any suggestions for making her feel welcome and (somewhat more) at ease for the bridal shower? Are there any presents or traditions that are considered appropriate or inappropriate for either the shower or the wedding? Thanks in advance for the help!
