Ancient Roman and Greek civilizations set my imagination ablaze, and while I've loved Homer's works right now I'm interested in works written in, say, the last century that take place in those times, or thereabouts. [more inside]

My fiancee and I recently returned from a vacation in Greece. We thoroughly enjoyed the food in Greece. We want to recreate some of the dishes we enjoyed. In particular, I want to know how to make "bifteki", the small hamburger patties served with tomatoes, onions and tzatziki. The few recipes I find on Google seem too simple to believe. [more inside]

What does the text say on these pink bottle caps (image 1

)? As I'm told, these were sold as inexpensive caps at a brew-your-own beer supply store in Texas. I'm guessing the text is Greek, but I'm just guessing. Thanks!

I'm looking for a tried-and-true recipe for creamy Greek salad dressing. When I lived in the Boston area, the Greek salads I got from my neighborhood Greektalian pizza places (like Aram's #2), as well as from the small local pizza chain Upper Crust, came with a wonderful creamy, tangy dressing. Here in California and everywhere else in the country as far as I can tell, Greek salads come with a vinaigrette-type dressing, and searching for Greek salad dressing recipes returns nothing but vinaigrettes as well. I've spent some time experimenting with ingredients, but I'm hoping someone here is familiar with this type of dressing and has a good, tried-and-true recipe. Are you? Do you? I'm looking for recipes only, please, not suggestions for what might be in the dressing.

I'm looking to get a tattoo I've wanted for years - "this too shall pass", but specifically in Ancient Greek. It's very important to me that it's Ancient, not modern. Where/how would I go about finding an accurate translation? How can I verify that it *is* in fact ancient? Many thanks in advance!

I am looking for a text file of a list of words (roughly the 5000-10000 most common English words) and their root word and root word language. My Google Fu only turns up single words or pages that I can type in a word to get to another page to get the etymology.
Wikipedia has some stuff, but it is sorted by language root, which is not what I am looking for.
I would like to have a long list of words in a text file so that I can manipulate it programatically. Comma separated or whatever, any format would be great.
Here is one use case:
Yoke - [list of words that have yoke in the etymological history] (Many, many many English words come from the root work for Yoke.)
All answers appreciated!

Is it Hercules? Ulysses? Odysseus or some other old mythic dude? What's the myth where he (whoever he is) has to fight a terrible creature, and it keeps changing shape. The key to triumph has something to do with the fact that he's strong enough (physically or mentally) to hold on through all these changes? Is this ringing a bell? What myth am I misremembering?

I just read the letter Ted Turner received after his father found out that Ted was now studying Classics at university. Passionately written
. My question, what was Ted Turner's father reading that would make him write like that? What authors influenced this urgent writing style? I want to read more like it.

Greek scholars: If an epithalamium is a poem "upon a bedchamber" what would a poem "upon wine" be? An epoinon (ἐποἶνον)? An epoinion (ἐποἶνιον)? An epoinios (ἐποἶνιος)? And how would you Latinize in a manner historically and stylistically concurrent to that of "epithalamium"?
Has no Greek poet ever written a poem "upon wine" before?
