Is there an existing greasemonkey script, firefox plugin, etc, that will help me enter data into forms?

Is there an existing greasemonkey script, firefox plugin, etc, that will help me enter data into forms? Basically I have a web application that our company uses for bug tracking. The field where you enter most of the data is a regular textbox, that accepts HTML. Our process is to fill out a "form" and put it in this box - we have a template that we paste in and then type the data in. This is a bit tedious to say the least, error prone, etc.

I'd like to have a script that lets me "add" a button above or below the textbox, which will pop up a window with a user-defined form (checkboxes, radios, text widgets, maybe calendar widget, etc) and let me enter data that way. When I'm done it pastes this into the form in html.

I'm having trouble even figuring out good search terms for this so I come up with tons of greasemonkey scripts but it's mostly little one offs for facebook or mafiawars or something like that.

But I don't have a sideways scroll button!

Is there a Greasemonkey script to turn side scrolling websites into up-down scrolling websites? I view a lot of photographer's websites. Or, I would, if it weren't for the current fad for putting all the images on one line and making me scroll sideways. [random example]

I don't have a scroll button that goes sideways! I do however, have Firefox with Greasemonkey installed. I've tried to google to find a solution myself, but I'm a relative newbie to using this extension and I don't know where to start. Does anything exist that could help me view these websites and not kill my wrists/eyes in the process? Is it logistically too difficult because of the variations in HTML/CSS etc? Please hope me!

When I use Grooveshark, I can no longer use Firefox's standard keyboard shortcuts. How can I fix this? Greasemonkey, maybe? I'm a habitual ctrl-tabber to switch tabs, ctrl-t to get a new tab, ctrl-shift-t to open a recently closed tab, etc. But when the active tab is Grooveshark, these commands don't work. This is especially frustrating when I'm trying to ctrl-tab my through a bunch of tabs, and I get stuck in Grooveshark.

I feel like this is something that might be solvable with Greasemonkey, but I don't know where to start. Does anyone know how to fix this?

How to use a different default funding source?

How can I get a visual warning every time I pay for something with Paypal, warning me to change my payment source? This Greasemonkey script would do what I want, but it's US-centric, so it doesn't work with the UK version of ebay, or apparently any UK Paypal sites. It could just be out of date, I guess. I use Firefox, always.

Is there another method by which I can get some kind of visual reminder (preferably a big neon sign...) that I'm on a Paypal payment page and that I should take a look at my payment source?

[I don't want to open another account with Paypal, as I already have a credit card associated with my current account, which means they won't let me register it again with a new account. Nor do I want to remove my bank account from my Paypal account, as I sometimes find it useful. Paypal don't offer any way to set a credit card as a default payment method, as it costs them more in fees. And no, "just remembering" isn't enough, sadly.]

Can greasemonkey open a link in a different browser?

Is it possible to use a greasemonkey script in Firefox to open specific links in Internet Explorer? If so, what would it look like? The particular element in the HTML page is an input button which executes some javascript, which opens a different webapp in a new browser window. However, that webapp only works with IE, and I use Firefox. The element looks similar to this:

<input value="New Webapp" class="btn" name="webapp" onclick="openIntegration('/servlet/servlet.Integration?scontrolCaching=1&lid=00b70000000zL1t&eid=50070000009tNYv&ic=1', 'height=600,location=no,resizable=yes,toolbar=no,status=no,menubar=no,scrollbars=1', 1)" title="New Webapp" type="button" />

The openIntegration function (which sits in a separate .js file) looks like this:

function openIntegration(url, props, positionType) {
var newWindow = window.open(url, "_blank", props, false);
if (positionType == 2){
newWindow.moveTo(0, 0);
} else if (positionType == 0){
newWindow.moveTo(0, 0);
newWindow.resizeTo(self.screen.width, self.screen.height);
}
}

Can javascript be used to specify a browser other than default? How would I go about doing this?

Script/extension to display third-party shipping costs on Amazon?

I am looking for a Greasemonkey script or Firefox add-on that will show me the shipping cost for Amazon third-party items in search results. Example: I found a bottle of Aloe Vera gel for $10.37. Thinking there had to be a better deal, I scrolled down the search results page and found a larger bottle for $8.79, making it look like the better deal. Once I clicked into the second link, the price instead was $8.79 + $8.22 shipping, making the first bottle the actual better deal.

I want a script that will get that $8.22 shipping cost (you can see where it is displayed on the page here - just above the shopping cart button) and at least display it on search results pages, if not add it in to the original cost. If this isn't possible I would also welcome a script that simply indicates on the search results page whether a product is a third-party item (indicated at the above link by the text "Ships from and sold by CosmeticMall.com") or shipped directly from Amazon.

Failing the existence of this script, I don't know javascript, so is this something I could do myself using the Platypus extension?

I found the Amazon TotalUsed 2.0 script but it doesn't work. Unfortunately, even if it did work, I'm not sure if it would only display shipping costs for items shipped by Amazon using their standard shipping prices, or also be able to retrieve third-party shipping costs.

Greasemonkey is causing my Firefox error console to go crazy & impossible to use. Any ideas?
What is wrong with this Greasemonkey script?

What is wrong with this Greasemonkey script? I just installed Greasemonkey for the first time, and I've started trying to figure out how to create Greasemonkey scripts, but I can't seem to get it to actually insert anything into the HTML. For example, I got the following very basic script from this tutorial page:

var elmNewContent = document.createElement('div');
document.body.appendChild(elmNewContent);

I would expect that this should insert an empty
<div>
into the page's HTML (for a page in the "include" list, and not in the "exclude" list), but it doesn't.

The script is definitely running on the appropriate page; for example, if I instead do this:

alert('start');
var elmNewContent = document.createElement('div');
document.body.appendChild(elmNewContent);
alert('end');

I do get the "start" and "end" message boxes. Similarly, I can issue log messages to the console via
GM_log
.

I've installed the Mefi deleted posts script, just to see if some "real" script works, and it does.

I've also tried
insertBefore
instead of
appendChild
; this doesn't help.

The console doesn't show any error messages or anything.

This is for Firefox 3.0.10.0, and Greasemonkey 0.8.20090123.1.

Thanks for any help!

Greasemonkey MeFi Deleted Posts Problems

Why is the Greasemonkey MeFi deleted posts script working on one computer and throwing an error on another? I'm a user of the Greasemonkey Mefi Deleted Posts script. I use it both at work and at home. At work the script works perfectly fine while at home it breaks (since I upgraded it from an older version which I can no longer restore). I've tried to figure this out but have gotten nowhere...

1) At work I'm using a linux box with Firefox and the script works perfectly.

2) At home I'm using Windows XP Pro, with Firefox and the script throws an error in the Firefox error console:

"$ is not defined"
[...]/gm_scripts/metafilter_dp/metafilter_dp.user.js Line: 32

I've checked the following already:
* the scripts are the same (I emailed them back and forth between work and home and xdiffed them... they're identical) and they're the most current version posted
* the script's Greasemonkey settings are the same (Included Pages, Excluded Pages, Enabled)
* Greasemonkey is enabled (well, obviously or I wouldn't get the error when it's trying to execute the script)
* Both at home and at work it's the only Greasemonkey script currently installed
* Firefox is not blocking execution because of some security settings (again, otherwise I wouldn't get that error anyway)
* The line in the code that throws the error seems to be perfectly legal Javascript (and doesn't throw any errors on my box at work):

$("div[class=copy] span[class=smallcopy]:has(a[href*=/user/]) a:contains(comment)," + "div[class=copy] span[class=smallcopy]:has(a[href*=/user/]) a:contains(answer)").each( function() {

(The line is actually split across 3 lines in the script file)

Does anybody have any idea why this isn't working for me? Has anybody experienced this?

I just learned about Firefox add-ons and grease monkey scripts (I know, I know....) There are literally thousands of these things and I was wondering which ones you find useful and how you use them. Any recommendations? I'm really open to anything, from easy to complex -- so I'm not going to write how I use the internet -- because I'm interested in varied responses. What streamlines your browsing? What do you have now that makes life simpler or that you find yourself glad you have?

Thank you in advance. :)

Feed me bites

How do I share images securely through an RSS feed? I have a series of images I would like to syndicate to myself, wherever I may be accessing Google Reader. I'd rather restrict "plaintext" access to only my computer, by some simple client-side encryption, if necessary. What's the easiest way of doing this?

There's an old encrypted RSS article that is exactly what I want, only for text. I'm not worried about local attacks.

Is there eg, a Greasemonkey script that would work? Am I neglecting that I would still have to host the images securely somehow? Right now I "host" from 127.0.0.1, solving several of the problems temporarily.

Which web browser with parenting controls for a Mac? We recently bought the girls (aged 6 and 4) an iMac. By default, we installed Safari as their web browser because it seems to have pretty decent parental controls. However, since it doesn't allow favicons, the girls (well, really, the younger one), is having a difficult time finding the sites because she can't read the bookmark bar.

I have Firefox on my Macbook and know that depending on the skins, you can see the favicons. Unfortunately, though, I've not been able to find any decent parental control scripts on Greasemonkey. Granted I'm a total dork and only installed Greasemonkey on my computer so I could install the Meta deleted thread script, so maybe I'm not looking in the right place.

Right now, the current protocol is for the girls to come running to find us any time they want to go to a new website. And it is getting old. Quickly. So, while Sophie is learning to read at a frightening pace, maybe somebody can provide insight sooner? :)

Thanks!

A Warning for My Forgetfulness -- on Firefox

Is there a way to get Firefox to warn me or ask me if I'm sure about closing a tab or navigating away from a webpage? I don't want the warnings to always happen because then I will just learn to ignore them. But maybe when I get to a page that I don't want to close willy-nilly, there would be a way to tell Firefox to warn me before I navigate away. Does a Greasemonkey script exist for this? I want it because I often listen to music streaming through a little flash player on a webpage, and I always unthinkingly leave the page.

Every time I scroll too far down on a CBC.ca news story, I feel a piece of my humanity being chewed off by the mire that is the CBC reader comments section. I wasn't able to find a greasemonkey script to hide or expurgate them, at least not one that mentioned the CBC specifically. Any suggestions? The brain bleach is chewing up my budget.

I archived w/o labeleling. Are my emails forver hidden?

About a year ago, I accidentally archived a ton of old emails in my Gmail account, without putting any labels on any of them. (I thought I knew how archiving worked at the time, but obviously I was wrong) Aside from just randomly searching for keywords every time I need to find one of those archived emails, is there any way to access them? Preferably en masse, so I can add labels to them once and for all.

I understand Gmails "great and wonderful" search ability, but I've found that a number of times, the obvious keywords aren't in the email I'm looking for, especially registration/sign-up confirmations/info, where the sender's email address isn't the same as the site I signed up with.
(I hope that makes sense... )

Maybe there's a Greasemonkey script out there somewhere I can use?

Greasemonkey Script Request

Greasemonkey Script Request: A script which displays "Get Back To Work" in big letters when I visit procrastination websites (like ask.metafilter). There are a ton of greasemonkey scripts blocking non-productive websites. However, blocking the sites entirely goes too far for me.

I am looking for a script that reminds me to get back to work but still lets me visit time-wasting websites. Something like this.

Any idea where I can find such a thing?
What happened to clean URLs, Google? Jeez.

Is there a script I can use to work around the google-fied URLs that now show up in searches? Here's the scenario:

1. I'm writing a blog post about Mefi. I can't remember the URL. I go to google, search for metafilter, and there it is!

2. I right click on the link in the google search results and select "copy link location." Until recently, this would give me http://metafilter.com.

Now it gives me this:
http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&ct=res&cd=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.metafilter.com%2F etc etc (I truncated to spare you all the ugliness.

I can't paste that mess!

Are there any scripts (greasemonkey, maybe?) to get around this irritating issue?

Custom client-side CSS to change background colours.

CSS, greasemonkey, sunglasses? Is there a way to stop white web pages hurting my eyes (firefox, osx). Even on the lowest brightness setting, I find, of an evening, that white-backgrounded web pages are too bright on my macbook. I suspect there's some way for me to have a local CSS file or something that I can turn on and off at will, to just swap white backgrounds for a more muted grey. Or something. Everything I see on google seems to be about blogs, but I want this on the client side. I suppose there could also be a greasemonkey way to do this, but greasemonkey scares me more than CSS. Corey Hart scares me more than both.

So, in question form: what is the simplest way to have a switchable setting to darken white backgrounds? (and/or: is there a good client-side CSS tutorial site which could teach me to work this out myself?)

Is it possible to force Flash animations to play at Low quality by default?

I set my Dad up with an old computer of mine. At the default Flash quality (High), this computer renders YouTube clips at about 1 frame/sec. When he manually switches the quality to Low, they are fine; but he has to do this manually every time. Is there a way to make all Flash animations default to Low quality? When I Googled, I gathered that the consensus answer is no (e.g. here, here), because the writer of the Flash animation (rather than the viewer) gets to choose the default quality. But I remain hopeful that there is Another Way. Any ideas?

Is there a javascript bookmark available that I can nest on my toolbar that will give me a word count for whatever text I have highlighted (in a text box or otherwise)? Or maybe a firefox addon or greasemonkey script that would do the same? I've googled it, but everything I've found is for specific websites (i.e. gmail word count, yelp word count, etc.).
