Graphics Website

Damn, my memory sucks. I'm trying to find this very cool web site that has very cool graphics on American demographics, economy, and culture. I think "USA" was in the title, but all my googling has produced zilch. Help!

Wacom Intuos Tablet question

I have the opportunity to buy an used x Wacom intuos graphics tablet to use with my photoshop program. It would cost about $85.00 with shipping. It is being offered on e-bay without the software that the owner says is free to download from the Wacom site. My question is to those of you with Wacom experiance, would it be better for a newbe to go for the more expensive (new) wacom to take advantage of the provided software and hard copy instructions or do you think a person that is reasonalbly technologically proficient with computers / downloading etc. be able to get up to speed using advice typically found on the internet? Thank you...

Logarithm Crash Course

I'm working on a data graphic with a linear scale horizontally but a logarithmic scale vertically. The y-axis (count scale) values range from 0 to 200, with the mode average in the lower third of that range. I'd like the graph to take up only a third of the size vertically that it currently does. I can recognize a logarithmic plot when I see one, and I know what I want generally, but I don't have enough of a handle on the Math to actually calculate and plot such a scale myself... at least accurately. I'd appreciate any help in understanding the Math. It's one thing to see a formula, and another to know how to use it. I'm also not 100% sure that this is the best way to handle such a graph, so alternate strategies or confirmation are welcome.

Do they own the files, or just the images?

Graphics for hire ethics question: For some years I've been creating fairly complex instructional graphics for a small company as a freelance editor/designer, using Illustrator. Until recently, all I sent them was a print-out of the finished results that they then had reproduced. Recently they've slowed down on sending me work, started asking me questions about Illustrator, and requesting that I send them copies of some of the .ai files I've created over the years. Good (used) video card for a 733ghz Mac

My 733ghz G4 mac with a GeForce2 MX videocard no longer seems like the top-of-the-line powerhouse it was back in '01, but I'd like to squeeze another year or two out of it by upgrading the video card (I've already added a bunch more RAM). I don't expect to run Doom 3, but I'd love to have better performance when using Final Cut Pro or playing No One Lives Forever 2. Since I'm hoping to upgrade to a new computer in a year or two, I don't want to spend a lot of money on a video card now. Ideally, I'd spend less than $50 on eBay and buy a used one--after all, a two-year-old card is still many several generations ahead of the one I've got! Alas, I know nothing about graphics cards and I'm overwhelmed by all the possibilities. What do I need to know, and what older cards would you good folks recommend?

What was the site with computer-graphic depictions of famous photos?

I'm thinking of some artist who put together graphic renderings (orthogonal?) of various famous news photos -- the King assassination, the Buddhist monk immolating himself in Saigon, the beating of Reginald Denny -- and made them look like stills from computer games. Does this ring a bell with anyone?

Help, my browser's resizing images!

Hello all. I have a problem that on some sites that hotlink images directly to me, the images are coming to me resized. Online resource for algorithms and formulas for typical 3d programming problems?

I am working on a project involving some 3d programming (in AutoLisp), and have managed to muddle through with what I remember of university geometry. I run into basic geometry problems (i.a.: find the 3d point where 2 lines intersect, given only the start points, angles and slope of the lines) which I manage to laboriously and clumsily solve. I'm sure most of these problems have 'canonical' solutions, worked out by graphic programmers. Is there any online resource for algorithms and formulas for typical 3d programming problems?
A good, simple explanation of the theory (and application in 3d graphics) of transformation matrixes would be nice, too.
