I’m trying to get Adobe Photoshop CS3 on Snow Leopard to show me the colors I expect. I’m using it to do some basic color selection, which will ultimately be pasted into a Python script that generates data graphics for use on the web. Part of my workflow involves screen captures from a browser that get round-tripped through Photoshop and into code, so I need basic RGB hex values to stay consistent through the process.

I'll be on three flights in the next 11 days, and although I'd like to sleep through every flight, I doubt that'll happen. I have an iPhone 4 and a 3rd-gen iPod Touch at my disposal, so I'd like to throw some new, non-battery-killing games on them before I go.

I have Deus Ex: Human Revolution installed via Steam. It runs perfectly... at 800x600. Any higher and it gets choppy. I can run higher resolutions with the lighting effects turned off. Does that mean I can make it better with a new graphics card, with more shading units or whatever you call it? Or is my old-ass Athlon X2 CPU more to blame?

About a year and a half ago my graphics card crapped out. I'd like to replace it at a level where I can play modern games again, but not necessarily at the highest graphics setting. I've never replaced a graphics card before, so I'm not sure what I'm looking for in terms of purchasing and installation. Specs for my system inside...

Help set me up: I am looking to buy my son a laptop. An
inexpensive laptop. It should have a strong enough graphics card to run, say, MineCraft and other games/video smoothly; should have a webcam. Otherwise, it will be used for general schoolwork and internetting, and maybe some light music recording. Screen size is not important, so small displays are OK. So: new or used? Or buy a cheap one and upgrade the graphics card? What specs should I aim for? Any sources/sites that are better for finding good deals? I am wishing to find something for $200--am I wishing too hard?
Thanks!!

My roommate is trying to build a computer on the cheap, giving me the perfect opportunity to sell him my BFG NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT and purchase a nicer graphics card. I don’t know squat about buying a graphics card, and I have just spent an hour on newegg.com looking at cards and I can’t bring my self to commit to any one particular card. I was hoping the hive mind and its infinite wisdom can point me in the direction of a particular card that is compatible with my computer.

Web filter filter: I seem to remember a link to an NYT article that just contained the full text of the article in nice big letters, with no graphics, banners, or ads. It was fully attributed, with links to the original, but it was much more pleasant to read, especially for a long article. Is there a website that will filter out the clutter and provide links that can be forwarded?
