I was not granted scholarship funds for my first year of graduate school. However, per my advisor I do have the option to appeal so I can possibly receive funds for my second year. Have you ever made an appeal for a scholarship or grant? Were you successful in doing so? And finally, do you have any suggestions on how to approach writing the appeal?

I plan on attending graduate school in the Fall 2011 semester and applying for financial aid. The FAFSA form asks numerous questions regarding income, adjusted gross income, and taxes for the 2010 year, but much of this info I will not have in time by the February 15th deadline. How do I proceed?

I am applying to graduate school, and have been gently nudging a former colleague for their letter of recommendation that they agreed to write on my behalf. For the past month and half I have routinely followed up, politely, and empathized with his circumstances as to why he could not get to writing it. He told me repeatedly it would be written. Now my application is incomplete and it is due tomorrow. [more inside]
