Does anyone have any experience with psychology in graduate school? We recently started reading journal articles in one of our classes and it's quite a bit of work to understand what the articles are all about. I'm not sure whether I'm a little slow or whether I just feel intimidated, but really understanding what I'm reading is quite difficult.
The method I've used for now, is to read the article a couple of times, highlighting what I think is important. Then I take notes on the article and it slowly comes to me.
I'm not sure whether it's significant that I wasn't a psychology major in my undergraduate program.
If anyone has any tips or tricks or other advice for understanding what we're reading, I'd greatly appreciate the help.

Does anyone know if you can apply to a clinical psychology Phd program before finishing your undergrad, or do you need to have experience before applying? Also what can you do to best guarantee your chances of acceptance?

I'm going to be entering a research-oriented doctoral program in clinical or counseling psychology this fall. Any tips on how to be a student who gets the most out of graduate school and prepares optimally for a successful academic career?

I'm a lawyer from a top law school with a year of work experience. I want to become an academic clinical psychologist (professor + therapist). After 9 months in a master's program, what will my admissions chances look like? [more inside]

It’s that time - the beginning of the last semester before I graduate from collee. It’s time to find a job or graduate school program and plot out the rest of my life. A renewed interest in charity and decreased interest in psychology, my chosen field of study, have led me to question my planned life course. Open my mind to what I might be able to do with my life. Starting my grad school program next week (clinical psychology, PhD) and am joining a cohort of 7 others. Any suggestions on things to do (or not do) when meeting and getting to know people I'll have to work with for the next six years? I'd like to be friends with them, especially since we have all our classes together. But the chances of such a small group together so much so stressed without conflict seem doubtful to me. Other psych grad school advice is welcome too. Thanks!
