My Masters program isn't the academic challenge that I hoped it would be. I'm paying a lot of money and spending a lot of time to do this in addition to my full-time job. Should I keep going or cut my losses?

I need to figure out what I'm going to regret more: getting a masters degree, or forgoing grad school in favor of getting to know myself a little better.

I like statistics. I like education. I loathe the statistics program at my university's school of education.

I work in the field of higher education/college access and retention. I'm sort of interested in getting my Master's in Higher Education Administration. My new job offers 80% tuition reimbursement for grad school classes at a local university. Logically, I know I should take advantage of this opportunity, and start taking classes next semester, but I have some reservations:

To what extent is it acceptable to "shop around" for graduate programs in the basic sciences (as far as initiating contact with potential labs goes)? In particular, is it ethical to contact more than one PI at the same institution?

Can I get into a funded Math Master's or PhD program? I'm graduating from a 4-year college with my B.S. this Spring, and I'm in my mid-30's. I have good GPA at this school (about a 3.6, up to about a 3.8 in math courses specifically) and good GRE scores (720 V / 780 Q), but I have dropped a lot of courses (I've worked full time over the years while getting my degree), and back in the mid-90's I flunked out of the first university I went to.

WannabeEditorFilter: I hated my first year of grad school, with its accompanying anxiety attacks, no free time, surly students, and pages of really boring reading. I'm halfway through my Master's and I am dreading going back.
