I need some advice about career plans, graduate studies and whether to rent or to own. Mostly in the financial context but also, of the bigger picture view -- am I being overly optimistic, am I too focused on career?

I have an bachelors degree is business but want to get my masters in education. I'm applying to Hunter College's School of Education in NYC. What are my chances if I do not meet the admissions requirements for an undergraduate major in liberal arts or science. This is a link to the admissions requirements page:
In general, what are the chances of getting into a graduate program? What do admissions look for when selecting prospective students? Are Hunter's graduate programs for education competitive to get into? Can I lower my chances of getting acceptance if I submit my application too close to the deadline?

QuarterLifeCrisisFilter: I've been thinking about my future career and considering going to grad school. I only have a vague idea of what I might like to study, but I know I want an advanced degree (preferably sooner rather than later). Is this a bad idea?

To what extent is it acceptable to "shop around" for graduate programs in the basic sciences (as far as initiating contact with potential labs goes)? In particular, is it ethical to contact more than one PI at the same institution?

What do you think of a Masters in Information Technology versus an MBA? I am passionate about new media/emerging tech but also know I want to be in business. Would I be cutting off too many options if I just went for an MS versus an MBA? What about dual degrees? Do they exist at top institutions?

I've been out of work for a number of years, by choice, staying at home to raise my kids. I have a Bachelor's in Education with a minor in English from back in 19mumblemumbleyear, and even if it were up-to-date, my life has taken a different turn, and I don't feel that teaching is for me any more. With this kind of background, if I don't teach, I am pretty much, as one of my English teachers once put it, an "educated un-employable."
What further education do I need to be taken seriously as I re-enter the workforce?
