I'm looking at MBA programs in Chicago, Cleveland, and St. Louis. I'm interested in specializing in Information Systems, but I've noticed that many schools in the top tier don't offer an IS specialty.
My main question is: what top-25 schools in those metro areas offer an MBA with a specialization in IS (or a similar specialization)? Are there programs outside of those metro areas I should really consider? And what pretty-good programs exist in those places?
But I'm also wondering why IS is not an offering at more top schools. There are a few concentrations that most schools offer such as finance and marketing. Is Information Systems not as prestigious as other concentrations? Is it considered less of a strategic area?

Which school, Georgetown or University of Washington, do you think has more name recognition and prestige? I got into the Masters program for Computational Linguistics for both universities but I'm not sure which one I should go to. It's okay if you don't know anything about the actual departments or linguistics. Just want your overall impression of both schools. Thanks!

I'm graduating this semester with a license to teach secondary history. Help me decide whether to take a one-year teaching job or a fully-funded MA in history. I want to ultimately teach high school, but full tuition + a monthly stipend seems too good to pass up, and I can't do both. What should I do?

I'm going to be graduating from a small 'top 25 private university in the West', not the best, not terrible, with a 4.0. I'm interested in pursuing History as a career and want to get into a great Ph.d program. (Interests include American, Post-Modern, historiography, historical memory.) Recently, I've considered transferring to a top private university with more prestige: will this benefit me in the application process or will my glowing recommendations, independent research and grades equally impress from my middle tier school? At this point, it seems like a gamble either way.

What do I do if I feel like I wasted a year of my life in grad school? I just read the requirements for a job I should be qualified to get and just realized I haven't done any of it. I'm just about to graduate with a Master's in a field I have nothing to say about.

I'm in a masters of health administration program offered by a local, not-too-prestigious university that holds classes at the hospital where I work. I would like to be a hospital administrator some day. Will this degree help me get there, or just be a waste of time?

I am a web developer with decent abilities but a growing frustration with the work. I have identified an area that I would like to pursue - Human-Computer Interaction.
I've been struggling with how to proceed with what seems like the inevitable next step in my working life and I'm hoping MeFi can be my surrogate mentor. I'd like to ask anon for employer-related reasons, which means more information than you may require inside.

You are in grad school and your professor gives out an assignment that seems to have very little relevance for the topic of the class. Is it appropriate to ask him/her, in a very polite way, what they see as the connection between the goal of the assignment and the topic of the class?
