How do I find an acute care nurse practitioner to shadow?

I'm applying to a graduate entry nurse practitioner program this summer (application due Oct 12). I know that this is what I want to do. I know the program I want, but I'd really like to see an ACNP in action. The trouble: I just moved to Columbus, OH and I don't really know anyone.

Help me find this oneoff comic about college/grad school w/superpowers

I have a memory of a one-off comic that I saw online one time about college and grad school. There was a sort of superhero or superpowers metaphor for the whole process of higher education. Black-and-white, in pencil (?), maybe some use of green. Help me find it? [more inside]

If I reapply to grad school, will my application get shot down?

An academic mentor says I should wait a year and submit The Strongest Application Ever to guarantee my acceptance. I said if I get rejected this year, I'll spend a year developing more research experience and reapply next year - no problem! What do I have to lose, right? Everything, according to him: he says he's concerned that they automatically look unfavorably upon re-applicants. Is that true?

Whom should I ask for a letter of recommendation?

I'm a liberal arts major who wants to study Nutrition Science. I know that a letter of recommendation from a community college teacher generally doesn't carry as much weight as a letter from someone teaching at a university. Unfortunately, I have only taken science classes at the community college level. Is my case an exception? [more inside]

Herbs/supplements for academic writing?

I just got into a top journalism school, but I want to be an entrepreneur

I'm 24 years old. I graduated in May with no debt from what is, frankly, a terrible college with a bachelor's degree in psychology. From there, I got into a top journalism program that will take 2 years to complete. My debt from that won't be astronomical, but I'm still worried about it. I wrote for my school paper and people really loved my work. My career goal if I were to go down this road is to write feature stories for New York Magazine and Esquire. I'd be satisfied with myself if I did that, even if the money wasn't fantastic. However, I've always dreamed of having my own dress company. [more inside]

SLP client's behavior interfering with therapy

Hi all, I'm an SLP grad student doing language-phonology clinic this semester and one of my client's behavior is getting in the way of therapy. She's 5.5 years old and is home schooled. It's quite clear there's no discipline at home and now I get to look totally incompetent for it. Any ideas about what I could do? This child spends most of the one-hour session mouthing off, spending 10 minutes on one sip of water to avoid work, pounding on the two-way glass (mom taps back, oy), and falling on the floor and telling me, "Me died." I've tried rewards but it seems she doesn't associate the rewards with anything. Just takes them and demands more. [more inside]
