What to do after applying for grad school?

I just applied to grad school (for a professional program). Should I be doing anything now that I've submitted all my applications? I'm visiting a few of them, but I'm wondering if I should be following-up somehow (like after an interview) or just wait for a decision? [more inside]

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood... and I took the one where I went crazy for a month to raise my score 40 points... and that uh... has made all the difference?

GRE-Filter: I was happy with my GRE scores. Then, I received word that I have the opportunity to get into a super-duper-top-tier doctoral program previously inaccessible. However, my Quantitative Score--while still in the range of accepted scores over the years for this program--is now less-than-stellar relatively speaking. Is it crazy to think I could study intensely for about a month and improve my score 30-50 points? Am I overthinking this? [more inside]

Conditional Admissions to grad programs--how common are they in the wild?

Grad programs--I've just heard (for the first time) that conditional admissions are A Thing. Would I have a snowball's chance with a good GRE score alone or will I have to take pre-req undergrad classes first? [more inside]

Can I let myself be happy now or should I guard my heart?

Four days ago, my partner got an email from her #1 grad school choice that sounded good. How excited should we be? I know there are many variables at work here that neither you nor we can know at this time, but I want to know if I can be excited and happy or if I should try to calm myself down. I know many people here are phD's from the hard sciences as well and I am hoping you can provide some perspective. Here are the details: [more inside]

GRE retesting

So I just bombed my GRE: 700 verbal, 660 math. I don't know the exact percentile of each, but I know its low, especially the math. How do grad schools handle re-tests? Do they just look at the highest one, like most undergrad admissions offices do? Do they average the two, like I think I heard somewhere they did? Something else? Is it worth taking them again, or should I just kiss grad school goodbye and get on with life?
