DrPh after MPH, requirments

Hey All, I am loving my MPH, but, I hear that MPH's are a dime a dozen. And, if you want to go into a leadership role you need the DrPH. So I would like to go on, right after the MPH. I worked for 6 years in housing before starting my MPH. What are the G.P.A requirements for the DrPH? Also, is there funding for the DrPH, or just the Phd? Does Harvard have funding? I think their DrPH is a new program. Anyone have experience there? I am working and doing a fellowship, so my grades have not been as high. If I only have a 3.8 g.p.a for grad school, but have a lot of great exp, will that be enough to get into a DrPh program? Thanks

Hi Mefi Community, I would like to apply for an MFT grad program but feel a huge block when it comes to the personal statement, as well as the letter of reference(s). Dell vs Lenovo or other Desk-top for writing paper, surfing net

I am not a gamer or anything, and I want a desktop for writing papers at home. I got the Dell 20 inch all in one for $349 but I cannot believe how slow it is on the internet- brand new out of box, and it froze a few times. I want to be under 500, ideally no more than $450. I like the flat screens at least 20 inch. Any advice? thanks!! i like the lenovo monitors and key boards. [more inside]

Am I too old (51) to go to grad school?

I have been thinking about getting my pHD—for a couple of reasons. Though I am a very well-established and published non-fiction author, I have been up for a few teaching positions lately and have been told that my lack of an advanced degree (I have a BA) is holding me back. In addition, I simply am interested in going deeper with my work; the degree I am considering is in geography, though history of science also intrigues me. The question: am I crazy to be thinking of this at my age? I don't want to get a degree strictly as a "broadening my knowledge" proposition—I want to be able to use it and to teach. But we're seriously talking being the oldest guy in the class, most likely. So, my questions: is it worthwhile? will it help me find employment teaching? does my existing experience count for anything? and where do I start? Thoughts, answers, advice...all appreciated. Thanks.

Grad school recommendation from someone I only talk to on the phone?

I'm gaining some volunteer experience in my field working for a supervisor I get along with great. I'd like him to write my recommendation letter for grad school. Problem: We've only met once in person, and that was five months ago. I've been working for him since then and communicating via phone and email. Is it appropriate to ask him for a recommendation letter? I'm not sure if he knows *me* so much as my work, but we do have a good working relationship.

How to Prepare for Grad School, out of state, and Hit the Ground Running

I will be moving to Boston for Grad school. I would love a checklist of what I need to do to prepare, A. I guess just the move in general, but most importantly B. Making the most of the MPH program and hitting the ground running- 2 years is gonna go by fast. I have to secure housing. I need to make sure that I have enough professional clothes- so I am gonna raid the Loft clearance rack. Other than that, I am looking to find a free online Biostats and Epi course, and looking into/reading up on How to Network- everyone keeps talking about it, and I am a total introvert- so I know I gotta figure that out so I can get a job when I graduate. If such a doc already exist, or something like making the most of grad school (I already have the book Getting What you Came for) please let me know, or otherwise give me your advice on what you think I should do now to prepare and be successful, what you wish you had know or done. thanks!

You can't spell great without GRE

This is a question about the new, normal (non-subject) GRE. ETS has a website that allows for the score to be sent to schools as part of grad applications. I took the GREs twice to raise one of my scores. It worked (yay test prep books!). But I would rather just report the second score and not the older, lower one from last year. [more inside]

My Gut Is Saying "Run" but My Brain is Scared

I posted this question a few months back but would like to... ask again with a little more details. I'm a historic preservation graduate student, and after a whole year of freaking out about what I want in life, all I really want is a job that pays well, or an incredibly marketable skill. I doubt I will get either with this degree. [more inside]

What do you suggest to make it more fun? This is a no drinking, no drugs, kids on buses, with chaperones event. We have a few 100$ to spend. Oh, it's this Tuesday. Thoughts?
