I'd like to take my smartphone (HTC Hero) with me when I'm cycling and use it as a trip computer. Problem: I'm nervous that I'll be taking it home in pieces. Are there any smartphone bike mounts that will secure my Hero to the bike as well as protect it in the event that I crash?

What interesting things can I do with my geotagged travel photos? I took about 600 pictures while spending 4 days walking around Rome. Besides dumping them into Picasa/Google Earth, are there any cool applications I can use to play with the photos and the metadata?

I will be traveling from Utah to British Columbia with my family and visiting the area for two weeks. I want to use a GPS and am not sure whether to get 1) a bluetooth GPS receiver, coupled to one of our idevices, 2) a cheap Android phone, or 3) a standalone automobile GPS.

I used to have an app on my Nokia E71 that would allow me to set waypoints and then provide a distance and bearing back to that position using the phone's built-in GPS. You could store thousands of GPS waypoints, either by using your current location or by entering long-lat; and organise waypoints into groups. There was no need for any data access. Does something like this exist on Android (HTC Desire)? What I'm
not looking for is an offline SatNav program like CoPilot or MobileNavigator.

What I'm looking to find out is if there is an internal GPS device which can go in an empty slot in
my laptop in order to track it should it be stolen? I found some services
here (some links work, some don't), but I think they all use WiFi as a way of tracking, which, correct me if I'm wrong, would be a problem for me in rural parts of Asia.

How to upgrade in-car navigation system? We have a 2008 Toyota Landcruiser which came with in-built satnav. An upgrade disc here in New Zealand will cost $800!! This seems like a ridiculous rip-off. You could buy half of the roads in New Zealand for less than $800 ;-) Does anyone know how to upgrade in-car nav systems? My parents had the same problem with their old Jaguar...

I have an old cell phone. I have a old digital camera. I have a simple mp3 player.
I want GPS. I currently pay $60/month for unlimited calling (but no data) on my Tmobile plan. Can I get all or most of these things on one cell phone without spending much (or anything) on a new phone, and without paying anymore a month?

I'm going to be doing remote fieldwork in the Pacific. If you've done remote fieldwork, what GPS did you use and how did you obtain the right maps for it? I've been looking at
Garmin and

I want an iPhone app that will allow me to get back to where I've been using the GPS, Compass and (optionally) mapping software. Essentially, I would bookmark places I want to return to. Then, to get back to them, I can just open the app, hit the bookmark and it tells me which direction to travel and how far to go.

Zoomable GPS: my last car had built in nav that I never used for finding locations, but found real useful for exploring & driving in unfamiliar areas - I'd just turn it on and use it as a live moving map. Now I have a new car with no nav so I'm shopping for a system, but the ones I've seen in Target appear to be more oriented to route finding and don't have a very good perspective/ too high a zoom level for assessing the surroundings on the move. Is there one available that I can use for exploring in this way?
