Is there any way to get free calling and texting on wifi but through a carrier when wifi isn't available (using the same number)? [more inside]
I currently use a Verizon phone with Google Voice configured to my personal Gmail account for voicemails and some texts. I love it – I get transcripts in my inbox and can quickly text from my laptop when I want to! [more inside]
I used to use talkatone to make calls from any android device for free, through google voice. Google voice shut down support for that through talkatone back in may 2014. Now I found a similar App but it makes you watch advertisements to get tokens to make "free" calls. Does anyone know an app that actually works, for free, on android? Thanks.
I've been using a Google Voice number as my primary phone number for years now, and over the past few months, a problem has come up with its behavior on incoming calls which is making it seriously difficult to use. [more inside]
I've been having problems using Google Voice for texts ever since I got a new cell phone in December (Samsung Galaxy Mega). Inside is how I would like it to be configured and what is happening instead. [more inside]
I know Google Voice and Hangouts will merge on May 15th and XMPP support will end. XMPP doesn't affect me, but I'm trying to figure out what will change. Has there been an announcement or is it still unknown what features from Voice will survive in this new service? [more inside]
Like a lot of folks, I bought an Obihai VOIP adapter primarily for the free Google Voice XMPP calling, and like a lot of folks, I'm saddened by the loss of the essentially free home phone service. Obihai has listed Anveo and Phone Power as "Approved Service Partners", but there seem to be a lot of other options out there, and I was just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for BYOD VOIP providers that are affordable but also likely to be around in a year or two so I don't have to find a new provider on short notice.
Any downsides, considerations, things I may not have thought of, in the idea of using my Google Voice number as the general number for all my credit card, banking, merchant etc. needs? Is it advisable? [more inside]
I want one phone number to use for talk and text, and I want to be able to send and receive texts on my iPhone or from my Mac without using a browser or a second phone number. Currently, Google Voice does this, but it looks like Google is merging Google Voice into Hangouts this spring, and 3rd party apps will no longer work. GAH! I love being able to send and receive texts for my real number on my Mac (I use GrowlVoice). I'm currently on AT&T for my iPhone, but I'm more than willing to switch to another carrier. What are my options?

I have a Google Voice account and phone number, and from my desktop I am able to send & receive SMS (google.com/voice) and even make outgoing calls (gmail.com). I just got a Nexus 7, and would like to find the 'Google Voice' app, but I'm not able to. What am I missing? [more inside]
I'm considering porting my personal cell phone to Google Voice so that calls and texts can be forwarded to my newly acquired work cell phone. If you've done this, please see my specific questions/concerns. [more inside]
I've just set up a Google Voice number. When someone calls the number, the person hears something like, "Please wait while Google Voice connects you." Is there a way for the connection to be transparent to the caller, i.e. for them not to know that they're calling a Google Voice number? It seems like there should be but I'm not having any luck figuring it out...

Seriously considering buying Virgin Mobile LG Optimus V (android 2.2) phone tomorrow, would/will be my first foray into any phone even beginning to resemble smart. My main question: how difficult is this phone to set up to use Google Voice telephone number over wi-fi, calls in-bound and out. [more inside]
Currently, I have a Virgin Mobile PAYG smartphone. I'd like to get a phone on my family's Sprint plan instead (for the same monthly price as Virgin, I can get unlimited whatever). However, Sprint says they can't port my phone number because Virgin is a reseller of theirs. I've heard that you can port your number to Google Voice for a small fee, and then have Sprint port the number to a Sprint phone, but this advice was found on a forum somewhere and no one backed up the claim that it actually worked. Would it work? Have you done this? I'd really like to keep my phone number, and before I risk losing it, I'd like to know. Thanks.

I'm thinking about getting an Obi110 VOIP appliance to replace our T-Mobile @Home service that's set to expire soon and keeping us tethered to an expensive plan. I frequently use Google Voice for cheap outbound international calls. The problem is that it's really cumbersome--I dial my Google Voice number from my iPhone, enter my PIN code, PAUSE, press 2 to place a call, PAUSE, enter the 13 digit phone number, PAUSE, and finally get through. Does anyone know a way to automate this? Is there a way to store frequently dialed numbers or otherwise get through the menus faster?

Another ditch-the-cell-phone-bill/Google Voice question: Google Voice made me give them my cell phone number (800-OLD-CELL) when I signed up, and then assigned me a new number (800-GGL-VOIC).
