For the past year I've been trying to bike down every street in St Louis. In the beginning this was easy and wide-open and fun. The middle has been less so. Now, sitting at ≈65% completion
[map: zoomable | 1.5mb png | GPX] my current approach has become overwhelming and
tedious, and is no longer working; I need to get way smarter about this. How would a programmer, a mathematician, or a GIS/transit specialist approach this endgame, and what tools/software would he/she use?

I'm a travel blogger - the sort that tries to give *good* directions to places I've traveled. Here in Thailand, there's no easy way of figuring out the address system (the locals barely seem to use them - and the Thai script is admittedly still a mystery)... The solution has been to snap a picture with my iPhone's built-in camera app, with the GPS turned on. The idea is to provide the GPS coordinates and a URL to those coordinates on Google Maps.
This captures the place, but then involves loading it onto the computer, matching up features on Picasa's map to Google Maps, then right-clicking the 'What's Here?' to get the coordinates.
What I'd love is a website or an app on the iPhone or for the Mac that can look at a picture and display the GPS coordinates - bonus points if it shows the point on Google Maps... Is there anything like that out there? :)

I need a non-Google Maps alternative, due to limitations in how Google displays My Maps. Mapchannels.com is very flexible, but it has two issues: its display doesn't seem to work for mobile users, and it displays small ads (and has suspended its former policy of letting a map creator pay to remove ads). Other options?

When I print out a custom map from Google Maps, it has little blue markers on the places of interest. Then at the bottom, it lists what all the blue markers are. But there's no numbering to say which marker goes with which description(????). As well the description is a single line without addresses. Is there a way to fix this?

I did something stupid today and 'updated' my iPhone 4 to iOS 6.0. The new Maps app doesn't include public transportation options (as Google Maps did previously) which I use extensively here in San Francisco. What are my options? Will anything be as seamless as the Google Maps app was?

I have business in the Bloomfield Hills suburb of Detroit in a couple of weeks. Google Maps gives me two routes from the airport car rental to my destination with roughly the same travel time and a third that appears slightly longer. Which is best in terms of ease of navigation for a solo driving Detroit area newb, safe road conditions (especially if it snows), and likelihood that the travel time is accurate (i.e. not prone to massive unexpected delays)?

Is there any app that will automate a 'walkthrough' of Google Street View, based on a to/from set of directions in Google Maps? Example: Assuming Google has 'streetviewed' all the roads from point A in Berkeley to point B in SF, is there a program or site that would show me the street view of my route without my having to click through the route myself? I realize the time scale is a determinant factor: I would not want to sit through the 'drive' in real time, but hope I could selectively 'fast forward' in a way analogous to the zoom function of Google Earth.
