How to keep video links from clogging google search results?

How can I prevent video results from showing up in a Google search? For example, if I do a google search on "picasa os x 10.6.8 screen resolution", half the links on the first results page are youtube videos. If I want videos I can select "videos" instead of "web". But I can't figure out how to prevent videos from showing up in a regular web search.

(I'm running Firefox on a MacBook Pro 10.6.8; I get the same results using Chrome.)

Mrs. COD gifted me yesterday with a shiny new Nexus 7 for my birthday. Where can I find free or cheap video programming to entertain myself on 1 my one hour each way daily commute? Obviously, I'm not driving! I don't have wifi available on the commute. I know Google Play videos can be saved locally, but that would get expensive quickly. I am familiar with Pirate Bay but would prefer to use up my free/cheap and legitimate entertainment options first.

Does anyone know how those ultra-high pixel dense Google commercials are made?

Does anyone know how those ultra-high pixel dense Google commercials are made? Example

You can see that the screen is very zoomed in, yet, you still don't see the individual pixels. Texts and UI elements are sharp and crisp.

I feel like it could be done in two ways. First, they could record via ultra high resolution, so that texts are still sharp after cropped and enlarged. Second, they could have made everything via Flash instead of recorded a screencast. But that might be too much work.

What do you think?

Marrying Flash and Google Earth

How can I create a video using Flash that incorporates zooming around in Google Earth? I've taken over a project that was started by a former employee. I'm trying to build a video that will eventually end up on YouTube. So far, it's being built in flash cs4. The first half is mostly text that flies or fades up onto the screen, along with some animated graphs. But the second half of the video is supposed to show a map that flies from one place to another, with custom labels fading in and out on various locations.

I know how to do the first half. But I can't figure out how to record a "journey" via google earth that I can then convert to FLV or whatever, that I can then add labels to. I've used Fraps to record the flying around, but it creates an avi file, which appears to be pretty incompatible with flash.

So is this possible? Is there a better solution? Should I scrap Flash altogether? I have Adobe CS4, but no other video editing software other than imovie. Would Final Cut work in this case? Hope me.

Why am I having YouTube problems?

Has YouTube not been working for people or is it just me? For the last few weeks, virtually every YouTube video I've watched has freaked out halfway through.

The audio will continue but the video will stop, then catch up. When this happens, I try to pause the video to let it reset, but the pause button is also in "hourglass mode" and doesn't respond right away. The result is that I end up pausing and playing a five-second span of the video over and over. Then I have to rewind it back to play it through without problems.

This happens when YouTube is the only tab I have open -- in fact, it happens when my browser is the only thing running on the computer at all, except for background programs. Even more puzzling is that I watch YouTube in Chrome, which is a product of Google, which owns YouTube. I thought if any browser would be YouTube-optimized, it would be Chrome.

Is it me? Or is YouTube having bandwidth issues? It really seems to be on every video, whether it's an official movie studio channel or just a random person, including my own videos. And it's been happening for weeks.

Thanks for your help.

Uploading Flash Videos to Youtube

I recently started making animated movies in flash. When I upload them to Youtube or Google video, the audio translates well but the video becomes very jerky. I assume its a byproduct of the way they compress the files, but is there a way to avoid this? For example, in this video, the blanket is supposed to come up in a single smooth motion, and the wink is one smooth motion.

It's especially bad at Youtube, which is a shame, because Youtube is more popular and so I'd rather use it more.

Does it make a difference if I upload a .swf file or a .mov file? Is it because the file size is too big? Would it be better to save it a higher resolution? Am I just uploading them wrong?

I think the animations I've done so far are coming out pretty well, so I would really appreciate anything that would help me show them to people in the way that they were created.

How to create Quicktime or AVI of Google Earth flythrough?

How to create Quicktime or AVI of Google Earth flythrough? I've tried doing a screen capture using Camtasia Studio but even on my Windows PC with an excellent video card, plenty of RAM, and a peppy CPU the frame rate of the flythrough is still choppy.

Is there a better tool or method for capturing a digital video of a Google Earth flythrough?

Downloading Videos Off Google: High Quality Off Limits?

I can't download high quality .avi files from Google Video with Keepvid. Any other way to grab them? I found a documentary on Google Video that looked interesting, after I hadn't been on for a while. I can't view Flash on this computer, so I find them and transfer to a USB stick for later with Keepvid. Last time I did so, I could get a high quality .avi just by clicking on the link. Now Keepvid just connects to vp.video.google.com, and I have to settle for the low quality version. Any other options for high quality downloads off Google Video?

Regular expressions to describe incoming search engine URLs?

HtAccessFilter: I’m seeking regular expressions to describe URLs that encompass search engines’ image and video search engines, but not the engines themselves, so that I can block said image and video search engines using “SetEnvIfNoCase Referer” in .htaccess. Also, I’m also seeking to block all incoming requests for one particular URL which is popular with these video and image search engines but which no longer exists – but I don’t want to serve them the normal 404. To be specific, I’m seeking to block most image and video search engines from my website, while not excluding the main search engines themselves (e.g., I want Google Images and all its regional variations blocked, but not Google itself; Yahoo Video Search, but not Yahoo; etc.). I managed to get a good variation for Google Images:

SetEnvIfNoCase Referer "^https?://(www\.)?images.google.(ae|at|be|ca|ch|cl|co\.hu|co\.il|co\.in|co\.jp|co\.kr|co\.nz|co\.th|co\.uk|co\.za|com|com\.ar|com\.au|com\.br|com\.fn|com\.gr|com\.hk|com\.mx|com\.my|com\.ph|com\.pr|com\.ru|com\.sg|com\.tr|com\.tw|com\.ua|de|dk|fi|fr|gr|ie|it|lv|nl|pl|pt|ro|se|sk)" DumbSearchEngine=1

However, I did that not through my own very bad knowledge of regular expressions, but by emulating what I saw elsewhere. I just don't have the know-how or the adequate reference to stave off the other search engines, really.

I’m now hoping others have worked out similar ways of describing and/or blocking things like AltaVista Video, Yahoo Video Search, and so on, without blocking Google, AltaVista, and Yahoo themselves. I also do not want to go too wide by blocking anything with ‘images’ or ‘video’ in the name itself, for example.

I then can direct them to a Forbidden error, so that they never even hit my StatCounter, which is the ultimate goal. I'm not a heavy multimedia website -- for some reason, if I am linking to an MP3 or AVI on another website, Yahoo, AltaVista, Google are all deciding that I'M hosting the image and linking their image- or video-search to me. Bastards.

Thanks.

Google video

What is the catch for uploading to Google Video? It looks like a great place to share one's own videos, but what are the cons of posting videos there (letting Google eat all the bandwidth costs) instead of on my own site?
What's the deal with Google video?

What's the deal with the Google Video interface? More specifically, how can I grab frames from videos that aren't playable, like this funky site does? I'm curious to know how Google's "ThumbnailServer" works. The url makes it look easy:

http://video.google.com/ThumbnailServer?
chan=KNTV
&year=2005
&month=5
&day=13
&hour=14
&minute=13
&second=0
&millisecond=0
&itag=qvga
&urlcreated=1124893747
&sigh=r3JnJpAEO_K_rVPg2pLmJ4kyEDU

Change parameters such as chan, year, month, day etc. to get different frames of video, right? Except when I do that, I get a "Bad Request" error. I've checked the docs but no mention of this. I didn't find anything in the Google Labs Discussion Group either. Is there a hacker in the house? ;-)
