I posted about getting misdirected GMail. It's gotten worse. Now my Google calendar is chockful of someone else's life. [more inside]
There's a short list of tasks that I need to do every single day, and some that I only need to do on weekdays, or only on Tuesdays, etc. How do I manage this given some constraints? [more inside]
Is there an Android Widget that will allow me to display a subset of data from Google Spreadsheets? I keep track of my budget in a spreadsheet, and I would like to display the balances in a quick way on my phone without actually having to open the Google Sheets application. [more inside]
Am I using Google Street View wrong? I have two destinations in Google Maps and the resulting route was calculated. What I would like to do is "walk through" the path in the full screen street view. Is this possible? Because it's not working the way I would expect and ironically my Google-Fu is not really helping me. [more inside]
We use the free Google Apps at our non-profit for about 5 heavy users who have hit storage limits, 30 light and another 30+ who need to access our Google Drive and other domain-limited sites. Previously we switched heavy users to a new account with access to the previous account, plus forwards as a work-around. Google's helpdesk says upgrade only as we're non-US. Does anyone have a better solution? We use Google spreadsheets and several marketplace apps, and otherwise are super-happy with Google but $4000/annually is a big upgrade bill!
Is there a way to tell Google Drive to use the "publish to the web" option--but not for a single spreadsheet, but rather for an entire folder full of 450 spreadsheets? [more inside]
I have a Google Calendar synced with my Mac (Yosemite) where I had a full year's events added while living in Toronto. I moved 3 months ago to the West Coast and changed all settings to Pacific Time, but when I check on the individual upcoming events from this calendar, I find either the event itself is off by 3 hours (urgh) or the TZ itself is still listed as Eastern (less problematic, but annoying). I've experienced extreme slowness with Google products, especially Gmail, for the past few weeks. This is true on several difference computers, tablets, etc., on several different internet connections and networks, using various browsers, apps, etc. [more inside]
What are the real risks to having a google account? What are the benefits to staying out of Google's ecosystem that outweigh the inconvenience? [more inside]
I thought I saw a recent announcement for a panel including Israeli author Amos Oz in New York City (perhaps as panel moderator). Now I can't remember where I saw it and Google hasn't been any help. Anyone know of a recent appearance in NYC or an upcoming one?
I want to make Duck Duck Go my default search engine (YOU KNOW WHY) in the same bar on my Safari that currently I can put the url or Google search in (I want it to use DDG instead of Google, or have a separate bar for DDG). [more inside]
My company recently decided to move everyone from Outlook to Google Apps. Now a lot of people who are used to Outlook (and MS Office) in all things are being hit with a new environment. It's going okay, but I've volunteered to give a short presentation on how to make the most of the new tools, since I have a lot of experience using them for my personal stuff. Can folks suggest good online resources either for me to mine for tips, or to hand out to users for their own reference later? [more inside]
I need a replacement for Google Maps that lets me store custom maps and locations. [more inside]
I have moved from Argentina back to the UK. Whilst there I set up my Google account with 2-Step Verification using my Argentinian phone number. Now back in the UK I no longer have access to that phone and as I unpacked I realised I threw away the notebook in which I jotted down the emergency codes in the move. Am I screwed? [more inside]
A few days ago I was searching for an email in my Gmail inbox and entered the email address of the person I knew it was from -- let's say firstname.lastname@example.org. I don't know what I did wrong during this very mundane occurrence, but ever since then "email@example.com" has been aggressively filling itself in on google-related search boxes in Chrome, preventing me from using Google effectively. How can I make it stop? [more inside]
After turning on Google 2-step verification, I am having trouble signing into YouTube on my Sony Blu-ray player. Any work-around? It seems like the Sony app makes no accommodation for 2-step verification.
Why can't I sign up for google apps with the domain I own? Weird troubleshooting loop, I'm probably doing something wrong that is really obvious. [more inside]
In Rebecca Solnit's latest LRB piece on San Francisco's tensions around the tech boom there, she makes an unsourced reference about "Google set[ting] itself up with the help of a $4.5 million dollar government subsidy". The LRB is very respectable but this claim seems a bit wobbly. Perhaps my Google Google-fu is failing me but I can't find a reference or more detail for this claim online. All I get is very vague and untrustworthy CIA funding conspiracy theories on tinfoil hat crank sites. I can't find anything re: that $4.5m figure. Solnit likely may not mean the CIA at all but some other kind of government subsidy. Can the MeFi hive mind help factcheck this claim? Are there reliable sources with more detail on this?
Decided to step up security with Google's 2-step verification process. Received the codes sent to my phone so that I could use the Gmail app and use my Google account on my phone's browser. Also, decided to list my work laptop as a trusted computer. Later I try logging in with my personal laptop without any luck. So now I'm not sure what to do. I can't log into any of my accounts whether its from my phone or my home laptop. Do I have to wait until I head back to work and use the laptop there? I admit I didn't carefully read all the directions for the setup...
is it possible to sort Google docs [in a google Drive folder] in date order? I don't mean 'date last opened by' or 'modified by; I do mean by numerical order, or even 'date closest to the present day' [whatever the formatting style of the filename]. [more inside]
(all e-mail addresses below are fakes, natch) I created firstname.lastname@example.org solely for the purpose of having a Google voice account to port a cell phone number to. I no longer needed the phone, and consolidated what were two phones (work and personal) into one number. Since I didn't want to check another e-mail address when voicemail/text notifications came in, and since the discarded phone had been for work, I set up email@example.com as the address to forward all e-mails to, and also set up this e-mail as my recovery address for the firstname.lastname@example.org account. This is the only association between these two accounts, and I have never publicized email@example.com at all, to anyone. Now that I've done this, gmail users who enter firstname.lastname@example.org into the TO: field to send me e-mail see the icon I used for email@example.com, and apparently the Google+ info that Google automatically set up for that account. It gets worse after the break... [more inside]

I read this article that said there was a button on the Google Earth site that let you download wallpapers. The article states there's a "globe" link at the bottom of the page, however when I load the Earth page I don't see that icon. Does anyone else? Or can I get to the images somewhere else?
In an opening chapter of this book which I read a year or two ago, the author describes a meeting/discussion with Google's Brin and Page, during which one of them refuses to take his eyes off the mobile device he's holding (if memory serves, the author requests the Googler to be present and not distracted/have his attention split by his little device, to which the latter responds laconically in the negative). I would like my friends & family who are not G+ members (and do not want to be) to be able to view my Picasaweb albums as in the past. I have searched several forums like google's downgrade, but find no definitive answers. If I delete my Google+ profile can I email the link to my friends/family? I do not want to lose my Gmail account.
I have an iPhone 4 running iOs 7 and I decided to sign in to the Google Maps app to see what the benefits were. I changed my mind and signed out, but the app seems to have retained my login info (and will login without entering a password). Is there any way to remove my info completely?

I apparently have bad or damaged Google Web Fonts installed on a Windows 7 machine. Fun fact, they are not in the Windows Fonts directory. Text is coming up gnarly, super aliased, big and chunky in both FireFox and Chrome as they appear to be loading a local cache of the font(s) as opposed to hitting Google for them. Where are they? How can I fix this? [more inside]
O hai! I'm a Google avoider. I've managed to not use Gmail, and to stop using Google as a search engine. I do have a Google account, but I use a separate browser to log into that, and log out and close the browser when I'm done. My online Google-avoiding life would be complete if only I could find a good replacement for Googledocs, preferrably free. [more inside]

A few months ago, I started getting emails thanking me for signing up for things like Match.com, Monster, and a few newsletters, all of these were using a personal address that I haven't used in about 7 years. I figured it was a weird spam thing, since the user names they created for these accounts were just random letters (like djfdksjafkasjvnckdfja). Today, I got four different responses from auto insurance companies about quote requests that I didn't actually make, all using that old address as well. I think I need to delete my Google account to stop this, but I'm very very hesitant to lose access to all my paid apps. Any suggestions what I could do?
I'm trying to remember the name and author fo a sci-fi novel that predicted the idea of Google glasses and their impact on society. I can clearly remember one of the characters, a youung person, complaining that all these old people had these glasses that recorded everything that happened around them and could send that data directly to the police. It was kind of an Orwellian Big Brother feel to society. You were always being watched, recorded, reported, etc. I was reminded again about this after reading an article on NPR about the first police arrest recorded on Google Glass. Does anyone else remember this book or the author? Thanks in advance for the help.

I have a spreadsheet with about 3000 rows of data. I would like the contents of this spreadsheet to show up as a big list/table on a webpage. It's mostly text with one column of URLs. The contents will change not-infrequently (maybe every couple of months) and I would like people both inside and outside my organization (but not general visitors to the webpage) to be able to edit the contents. I have an internet friend (never met IRL) whom I met on a discussion board for a health issue we share in common. We connected because we live in the same city and are undergoing the same treatments. He has told me his uncommon first name, his employer, and the hospital where he's being treated, as well as the fact that (unfortunately) his most recent procedure had a lot of complications and he's still in hospital. Would it be really weird to send flowers and/or a card? [more inside]
I stupidly let a web hosting account expire without backing up and transferring my site to my new server. I'm talking to the host to try to get access to my data (fingers crossed), but in case that does not work out: Is there a way to efficiently harvest Google's entire cache of a specific domain? Something else I should consider? I would like to act fast on this, and I don't have any programming/tech-fu skills.
This has happened twice now, and it is freaky. Google chrome on the iMac I use in my office at work (at a university) will have usernames and passwords for people who have never been in my office ever. The first time it happened it was my father's email, and the second time it was my stepmother's. Why would chrome be filling in these odd emails when it doesn't even save my own login information after closing the browser window? [more inside]
Chrome on Lion 10.7.5 keeps closing while I'm in the midst of browsing, and it's driving me nuts. And it doesn't seem to think there's a problem with that. [more inside]
I have a GoogleBooks library with 2650 books in it. This is good. For several months now, I have been unable to perform full-text searches on it. This is not. I've ascertained from other users that this is not a system-wide problem, so the bug is somewhere in the library. [more inside]
I was having trouble with my iMac computer lagging and one of the things I did was restart in Safe mode (holding down shift). It now seems to be ok. I also have mediocre vision so have resolution at 1280 x 800 as my usual preference. The Issue: since the safe boot, Chrome pages go to a white screen after a few seconds on most sites such as Facebook and Amazon among others. I see old posts on Google but no real fixes. I looked at many google help links like this among others. Has anybody else had this problem? (Chrome does this when I change the view back to a more usual setting like 1344 x 840, for example. Any thoughts?
I have a project on Google Earth I created on a PC and want to show off on a tablet, but things are not going smoothly. Have I missed something? I have just started using Google Japanese Input on Windows 7. It works fine, but I would like to be able to switch input modes (i.e. between direct input, hiragana, katakana etc) using a shortcut key. Currently I have to click on the language bar to switch, which is a pain. I looked in the properties and can't see an option for shortcuts. I tried googling but can't seem to find an answer either. I have a close friend who ran into some trouble with the law a couple of years ago. Now, when her name is Googled, her mug shot is pretty much the first hit. Is there a way to make this suck less for her and her young family?
