Please help us name a mini-golf goat.

There is a cute goat who lives in a cute little goat house. With the help of about 5 bunny rabbit friends, he (or she?) keeps the grass trimmed at an abandoned mini-golf (putt-putt) place. We stop there occasionally to talk to the goat and to fantasize about running a mini-golf-ery since it's for sale. But what is a clever name for a goat associated with mini-golf? We are at a loss for a good one, properly punny.

Golf GPS Database

Databases of standard golf course information (address, scorecards, etc) are available from providers such as US Golf Data. However I am wondering how companies are able to provide GPS maps of the courses (as can be seen in apps like GolfNow, MobiTee, and GolfShot). These all appear to be separate companies, did they really each do the mapping themselves (isn't this a huge amount of labor?) or is there a known licensor of GPS golf maps? [more inside]

What is the best way to get better at disc golf?

I used to play a lot of disc golf 10-15 years ago, but haven't played much at all in the past decade. I recently took it up again, and quite frankly, I stink. I'd like to at least be able to be within a couple strokes of par. Am i better off just playing as many rounds as possible, or should I devote some of my time to just practicing my driving, putting, etc? What else can i do to make myself better at disc golf?

Put new battery in VW Golf and now it won't start. Help!

Battery died in a Volkswagen Golf. New battery connected and now whenever the car door is opened the alarm goes off, which came as a shock because we didn't know the car had an alarm! Disconnecting a thin blue wire on the negative battery terminal disables the alarm but the car won't start -- dash lights come on, radio plays fine, but the engine doesn't even make a sound. Just dead. Presumably an immobiliser. Help! [more inside]

2001 VW Golf caught in flooding - now difficult to change gears

My 2001 VW Golf (1.6l manual) was caught in flash flooding on Friday. The car stalled in water that came up to a couple of inches past the level of the bottom of the doors. The car was in the water for about 15 minutes before some local residents helped me push the car out of the water. Luckily, the car started and I drove home. The next day I found it was (intermittently) difficult to change gears. Is it possible that water could have got into the transmission or some other part of the car effecting the transmission? Or is this just a coincidence and the well know problem with the Mk4 transmission has happened? Any advice is appreciated.

What's the source of this quote?

I'm looking for the source of this remembered anecdote I heard about 30 years ago: A famous letter was to the editor of the Times of London read, in its entirety: "This morning while shaving, I broke 100. What's par?" This apparently released a flood of responses. The letter was published much longer ago, I'd guess, and it might not have been the Times, either — perhaps it was in the journal Notes & Queries. Search at Times or Notes & Queries fails to find it, however. It was in Britain, in any case. [more inside]

Why do golfers sometimes place a token or coin on the green?

Why do golfers sometimes place a token or coin behind the ball? I know almost nothing about golf, but I've started watching it on a new HDTV as I find it beautiful to watch in Hi Def. I just watched a player putt to within 5-6 feet. He put a token on the green right behind the ball, picked up the ball for a second, then replaced the ball where it was, removed the token and made the putt. What is the reason for this?
