When using Safari, since the weekend, I have noticed that whenever I do a Google search with the search field in the browser, it looks as if my girlfriend is still logged on on Google via my computer.
I tried reseting the browser, restarting it, logging in to Google as myself and logging out, even clearing the cooking, cache and history manually, and still eventually it looks like she is still logged in. What gives? [more inside]

Gmail Hosted Apps attachment weirdness.
I administrate a hosted apps account; recently a MS Publisher file was sent to everyone in the organisation, all were able to open it originally, bar one person, who for some reason, when attempting to download, could only download as a zip file. Tested the same situation in Firefox on XP at home (the situation occurs on IE6/XP) and it downloads fine. Tested with another account on XP/IE 6 and i find this is the same case, i.e. only able to download the MS Publisher file as a zip file. Has anyone else experienced this weirdness? is this due to Google withdrawing support for IE6?

How do I get Gmail to automatically sort some received items into specific folders? I.e., I get a ton of emails from job lists. Instead of seeing them in my Inbox, can they just get auto-sorted into a "JOBS" folder?

Communications madness... I have an email address that it's time to dump. It's from a dialup service that I used, and had kept around for emergency purposes. But I almost never use it anymore, and it's costing me something like $7 a month just to keep that email address.
So in making the switch, I'd like to switch to something more portable, not tied to whomever I'm paying for internet access at the moment. [more inside]

I created an Automator Workflow to do a daily automatic offsite backup of my documents. The only snag is that when I get my mac's Mail program to send the email to my gmail account, most of the time the message just sits in the outbox and doesn't actually send; but sometimes it starts sending right away. What gives?

Once in a while I go into my gmail Spam folder and I notice that there is the odd email in there that isn't actually spam. One time there was an email from amazon.com telling me that I sold a book and to ship it... whoops! Is there anything I can do about this besides reading every spam email that I get?

I'm thinking of switching from Gmail to Fastmail, and would appreciate hearing from others if this is a good idea---and if so, why? and if not, why not? There was some debate on this on several sites a few years back when Gmail first launched, but I've not seen anything new on the comparison between these two services in a long while, and would appreciate some more up-to-date, informed opinions. I'm having a great deal of trouble receiving my University email in Outlook 2000. My University uses Google Apps, which allows me to use Gmail as my webmail service, but does not assign me a Google or Gmail account. The domain of my email address is myuniversity
.edu, not gmail.com. For this reason, Outlook does not recognize the username and password that I use to log into my email (through my university's website). I have tried following gmail's tutorial
(complicated by the fact that they don't offer one for Outlook 2000) with no success. I've tried reporting my incoming mail server as both pop.gmail.com and pop.myuniversity
.edu. Any ideas? Did I miss any important info?

Gmail: I've been getting the Gmail 502 Error
that they said was resolved on Monday
for almost a solid 24 hours now (24 hours without Gmail - argh!). Since there's nothing posted about it in Announcements and Alerts, I'm starting to wonder if the Gmail folks are unaware there is a problem. How do I contact Gmail about this given, that, you know, my only email is currently not working. Is there a "trouble report form" or some such thing somewhere that I'm not finding?

Apache/2.2.2 (Fedora) Server at mail.google.com Port 80" I'm using ethernet to connect, and I only get this error at home (I'm on a MacBook Pro.) How can I fix that?

I like to think of myself as somewhat of a power user when it comes to mail servers, SSH, Gmail, and Outlook, but this one has me stumped! I use Outlook for both work and personal e-mail, but while on the network at work our ports are pretty locked down. How might I access my Gmail account via IMAP in Outlook while on a locked-down network? Ports 25, 110, 143, 587, 993, etc., are all blocked.
In order to access personal e-mail, I connect via SSH (PuTTY) to my DreamHost mail server and tunnel POP/SMTP (ports 110 and 25) traffic over that SSH session. Is there any way I could use that SSH connection to tunnel to Gmail's servers for IMAP access as well? If not using that tunnel, is there another way?
I can access Gmail through a web browser, but my objective is to be able to collect all my e-mail in Outlook as well. Thanks!

Escabechette has years of old e-mail stored on an old school account that's soon going to close. We want to move all this e-mail to her gmail account. Apparently this is now easy because "GMail supports IMAP." But I haven't succeeded in finding instructions (on AskMeFi or elsewhere) which are suitable for someone, like me, who doesn't know what the word "IMAP" means. Is this really easy? And can you explain to this naif how to do it? [more inside]

Maybe a program or script to help accomplish this? Thanks!

Can any of you technosmart people help with weirdness in my gmail.
Running Firefox 3 and the new version of gmail (googlemail in UK). When I write or reply to a message the list of actions to click on the left (inbox, starred, chats, sent mail, etc) appears on the sent message above what I've written in a vertical list. But only after I send it, it looks OK when I write it.
When I change to the older version of gmail, it's OK, and the message is regular. But the older version keeps reverting to the newer version. Any ideas why -- in idiot language, please? Or what I should do to stop it?
