How accurate are the IP locations in Gmail's Activity Information tables? My account says it was accessed in the state next to where I live (according to the IP). Internet tubes thing or did someone else access my account?

I receive a couple of non-Gmail-filtered spam emails a day, from a friend's compromised machine/account. I can easily deal with them / filter them / discard them.
Besides hitting "Report Spam" I'm just wondering if there is a better place to report these consistent messages. I've been getting them for 6 months or so, doesn't seem the Big G's learning algorithm is ever gonna catch on...

I'm encountering the same problem with Gmail and Firefox (on Mac) described in
this question, but I'm too computer illiterate to understand the fixes that the "best answer" refers me to- I can't find "about:config" to make sure dom.storage.enabled is TRUE; "About Firefox" just gets me the little box with the icon and the version number. Can someone explain to me how to implement in the fix in simpler language with more basic step-by-step instructions?

Gmail acting funny in Firefox: I have 2 gmail tabs open. One is for my personal account, the other is through my employer (the college uses google to manage their webmail service). If I try to "Compose Mail" or "Reply" or anything that would open up a new email, on either account, the top of the page goes to "Loading" but nothing ever happens. In addition, the Gmail Chat tab is missing. Only not working on my home computer; both were working fine on my office computer when I went in to check 30 min ago.

Please tell me everything I need to know about the GMail dot feature (placing - or not placing - a dot in the username of a gmail email address). I don't understand it, how to use it, what it does and how to take advantage of it. As an email receiver and sender. Also, what problems are created with this? Is there a way I can use it to categorize email, both received and sent?

I share a gmail account with someone. I read the messages on Mac's Mail program, she reads them in Gmail.
I would like to be able to read them in my program and have them remain marked as unread in Gmail. Are there any plugins you fine folks can think of to help us out?

I have two separate Google Apps for your Domain (paid) accounts. In GMail, on only one there is this really distracting "tips" line of text under the inbox that changes every minute or so. It says things like "Add a personalized signature to all your outgoing messages" or "Google Checkout: Sign up for faster and safer shopping." It is right over the inbox use percentage in bold green and since it flashes when it changes it makes my monkey brain think I have a new mail and I look over at it. How do I get rid of it? It is not on the other one so there must be a way.

In regular Gmail, my friends' chat statuses show up as red, green, or greyed out. I know that if they're greyed out it might be because they're not signed in or because they've gone invisible. In Gchat on the iPhone/iPod Touch, there's a little more variation in how their statuses appear (not on the list at all, greyed out without profile pic, greyed out with profile pic) and I'm looking to understand whether those variations tell me if they're there but "invisible" vs "signed out."

Gmail security: Someone keeps trying to recover, or change, the password for my gmail account. I'd previously set my gmail recovery option to send me an SMS, and I'm getting a lot of SMSes saying, "Your Google Account recovery code is: ... If you did not request this code, you can safely ignore this message". I've already changed my secret question to be really obscure, but what else should I do to protect my account? Every couple of weeks, I get bombarded with SMSes because someone is trying to access my account. Can I temporarily disable the recovery option? I'm just worried that someone might guess the answer to my secret question by brute force or some other means.

A friend of mine recently had his g-mail account broken into. Someone got in an started sending out bcc e-mails to all the contacts saying he had been mugged in a foreign land and needed cash. The conversation was clearly
419 language and clearly not my friend, so there was no damage. Is there anything that can be done to recover the g-mail address? Any way to contact Google about it and make the case? Obviously just creating a new g-mail address and starting over is the obvious answer, but I am wondering if there is a process for recovering a g-mail identity that's demonstrably "yours".
