My gmail inbox is different and I don't want it to be. How do I make it like it was before? [more inside]
Someone out there has a Gmail address almost the same as mine, and I occasionally get his mails. What to do? [more inside]
If Gmail detects that you've previously sent the same text in another email, it turns the text purple and sometimes cuts it off with an ellipse as if it's an older threaded message. The problem is that I send a lot of similar emails to different people. I tailor them to the person, but that one paragraph that I copy pasted from an old email will still turn up purple and possibly be cut off with my signature. [more inside]
Weird problem started showing up recently. I'm using Gmail on Android and it isn't including (quoting) the text of the email that I'm replying to. I've checked the box to do so, and the quoted text even shows when I'm composing the email, but then it isn't actually included when the email gets sent (only what I wrote is sent). What the heck?
I've been using Thunderbird a very long time. It's mostly great, but it's tied to my single work computer. The address book, complete with recipient photos; send messages; archived messages in a huge set of folders. What's a good web-based alternative? (Hint: not Gmail.) [more inside]
I'd like to send the same email to a group of about 40 people, but instead of sending it BCC with me in the "to" field, I'd really like to send it individually to each person. Is there a way to automate this? [more inside]
I want to frequently request/require a group of people to update their email signature for their business email (run on gmail). I also want to make it as easy as possible. [more inside]
I have gmail set up to grab my domain mail and it has always worked well. I forced it to check once manually a few days ago and now it has stopped doing it automatically for hours at a time. How can I fix this? [more inside]
I got Nylas N1 for Windows today. Looks pretty, seems cool for developers, but is there any way I can use it? [more inside]
I have a gmail account and want to potentially send an email to everyone who has ever emailed me (thousands of people). This is a one time thing, not something I anticipate ever doing again. Is there any way to do this? How would you go about doing it?
I have an Gmail account with an unprofessional-sounding handle—think Schnookums2318@gmail.com. I've been using this for far too long. Firstname.lastname@gmail isn't available, but email@example.com is, and so I took that one. How can I merge the two accounts, or otherwise transition from Schnookums to FirstMiddleLast with a minimum of trouble? [more inside]
I have an extremely common first and last name and was "lucky" enough to procure firstname.lastname@example.org about a decade ago. I'm used to the normal problems this entails, but now I'm noticing a new one that puzzles me. [more inside]
I want to save all emails with a certain label in my gmail account to one big text document. How would you do that? I'm on a Mac (I assume I will need to use an email client app to do this).
My brother just got a new Blackberry. (I know.) And a new phone number. He uses Verizon in New York. When he sends me a text, his messages come to my Gmail account as emails from [hisnumber]@vtext.com. Whyyyyyyyy? Please help make it stop. [more inside]
There's at least one other person in the USA who shares my firstname, lastname combo. I signed up for my Gmail account 10+ years ago. It's firstname.lastname so it also works with out the ".". I've lately been getting more email intended for this other person. [more inside]
How do I find out the origin of an automatic reply that does not appear to originate from the actual email address I sent the message to? [more inside]
I use Gmail and I'm running Yosemite on my Mac. What's the difference between using the newest version of Outlook vs the Mail app?
I have a gmail account, which I love, but on my iPhone it's seriously misbehaving. read emails are getting marked as unread again, unrelated emails are grouped... hjalp? [more inside]
In Gmail Labs there is an "Undo Send" feature, i.e. after a message is sent, for ~5 seconds an "Undo Send" appears. EVERYONE (1, 2, 3) says Gmail just adds a 5 second delay before it sends but its not true! If I open a new e-mail window, send something to the 2nd address, it will show up almost immediately. If I click "Undo Send" in the sender's e-mail, the e-mail disappears in the recipients box! ALSO, if I send it, open it immediately in the recipients box, then click "Undo Send" it disappears from the senders box, but Stays in the recipient box. Obviously not just a simple 5 sec delay, anyone know what really going on?
I use Gmail. I read Gmail through Gmail.com, and Mailbox for ios. No other client. For the past 18 months, I randomly get old, archived email suddenly showing up in my inbox for no reason. [more inside]
My new google account was suspended. I believe they think I'm a spammer. But I am working for a small non-profit. Our email contact list is legitimate. My initial request for account reinstatement was denied. Need help getting reinstated. Details below: [more inside]
Beyond auto-forwarding all my emails, what are the best practices in switching to a new gmail address? Is there a way to move all my archived emails to the new account so I don't have to switch when searching for old emails?
I'd like to export past and future emails received by a pair of GMail accounts to my own local disk, or some other (non-Google) archiving solution. I'd like to do this automatically and regularly, with minimal intervention, without adding these accounts to my primary mail client. Hope me? [more inside]
With my gmail account I am in frequent contact with a particular individual. So frequent that our emails are kind of a mess, and I want to know if I can organize them in any way. [more inside]
I used to be an inbox-zero person, but I can't do it any more.; I simply don't have the time. I've got a vast army of filters in use already. I just need a workable system for using email. Client & gmail etc etc inside. [more inside]
This morning, a relative called saying I had sent them spam from my Gmail account. I ran to the computer, checked Gmail's login history, but found nothing suspicious. I checked the spam folder, and sure enough, two pieces of spam with a link to a phishing site which Safari immediately picked up as such (I know, bad idea to click it at all) had been sent to every one of my contacts. I know anyone can spoof anyone else's email, despite the best attempts at protection by Gmail and such. My question is: how did they get my contacts? How can I make this spoofing harder, or at least prevent access to my contacts in the future? (Further details inside.) [more inside]
I love me some Gmail, so I'm kind of peeved with its most recent shenanigans. I rarely check my Trash, but out of curiosity I did this week and found a lot of messages that should not have been in the Trash. [more inside]
I think my Dad's gmail account got hacked while he was in Cambodia at the start of the month. We have no idea how. What should we do beyond changing the password and alerting the banks and credit card companies? [more inside]
I have several google apps accounts with email inboxes for each. On my Firefox toolbar I have bookmarks for each of those email accounts in the usual format https://mail.google.com/a/yourdomain.com with my different domains substituted for yourdomain.com of course. Up until yesterday each one of those bookmarks dutifully opened the inbox of the right domain's email account... [more inside]
When we get married next year, my fiancee wants a new email address to match her "new" full name. The Gmail version of email@example.com is taken and she's bummed out. I had the thought that it might be just as good to have firstname.lastname@example.org, and then she can just forward it to her current gmail address. [more inside]
As long as I've had an iPhone I've used the default email app, Mail, linked to my primary gmail address, along with my secondary gmail address that forwards to my primary mailbox. After upgrading my iPhone 5 to the 6, I've lost the ability to use an Exchange account for gmail so that new mail pushes to the Mail app. See here. [more inside]
I have a primary and a secondary gmail adress. The first address is email@example.com, the secondary address is firstname.lastname@example.org. I have been using both for years. Since a couple of weeks, people cannot send me email onto my secondary address. I have tried it myself, it says "Technical details of permanent failure: Account disabled" [more inside]
I am looking for another free/cheap web mail app that I can use to contact the ten people I normally correspond with. Any recommendations? [more inside]
I'm working with someone (outside of the US) who is getting a series of harassing emails to her GMail account. The abuser is sending from a number of addresses, and is thus hard to identify or block by account. Is there a way to get GMail to block mail by IP address? Filters don't seem to do it, and I doubt reporting the abuse to Google will get a response. Other solutions would also be appreciated (yes, I am talking to her about potentially using other services). Thanks!
Are there any iOS apps or desktop Mac OS apps that play nice with gmail's tabbed inbox? I realize some do priority inbox, but that's not what I want. [more inside]
My email is hosted on Outlook.com, using their recently discontinued live.domains.com service. It's fine, but I'm concerned that eventually, MS will stop supporting existing accounts using the service. What's a good hosted IMAP email service that's reliable, supports domains and aliases, and is relatively simple to configure? [more inside]
Hey guys. So I'm trying to determine how far I've flown over the past five years; I'd like to search my Gmail account for every flight confirmation, but the results are terrible--it seems like the search is bringing up all kinds of unrelated emails. Does anyone know of a better way to do this? Thanks!
I have a Gmail account, and I use Mail. I am signed up to a listserv. I get most of the emails sent to this listserv in my inbox, but some of them get spam-filtered and sent straight to junk. [more inside]
I want to fly through my email. GTD/Zero inbox style. Trouble multiple accounts including .Mac, gmail and Gmail for business. I thought I found a desktop client - MailPilot for OSX - but it's just not doing well enough (it's development is too slow.) Meanwhile, I hear that you can be super clever with Gmail - More inside! IMAP is supposed to be able to preserve message state information across clients. So why is it that my email read/unread states aren't transferring from my Macbook to my iPhone? [more inside]
I'm in an emergency email situation. I need to transfer all of my gmail (but company based) emails (100,000 maybe?) to somewhere separate and secure. Quickly, and cost doesn't matter. [more inside]
A few days ago I was searching for an email in my Gmail inbox and entered the email address of the person I knew it was from -- let's say email@example.com. I don't know what I did wrong during this very mundane occurrence, but ever since then "firstname.lastname@example.org" has been aggressively filling itself in on google-related search boxes in Chrome, preventing me from using Google effectively. How can I make it stop? [more inside]
I'm looking for a new home for three IMAP inboxes. Each one should be able to handle up to 10-15 GB of stored mail. I want a reliable long-term service that is supported by fees rather than ads. [more inside]
I help manage a small nonprofit that regularly sends out batches of emails notifying people of upcoming opportunities. Either we're experiencing an upward trend in flakes, or some of our messages are being flagged as spam, or banished to a gmail tab. Looking for pragmatic solutions for increasing our (suspected) delivery rate. [more inside]
I synced my Yahoo mail account with Gmail. Now Gmail displays thousands of unread messages. Most of them are useless notification messages but some may be emails that I want to keep. How can I mark them all as read? I would prefer not to go through the whole list 20 at a time.
Is there an equivalent of Instapaper or Pocket, but more or less optimized for saving and decluttering (long) email threads? (Gmail, specifically?) [more inside]
I'm looking for a new email provider for personal use, and I'm happy to pay (maybe around $30 per year). Can you recommend a new provider, or can you explain how to do what I need with other services like fruux? [more inside]
I am confused with how the "business" gmail works. I do see it costs $5 which is fine. What I am seeking is to be able to send 500+ emails a day and I am limited by a regular account. [more inside]
This is a question about Gmail. I have sent a Rather Important e-mail and have not heard back from the recipient. It shows up in my sent mail in Mail on my MacBook. It shows up in my "sent messages" in Gmail when I go into Gmail directly. However it does not show up in my "sent mail" in Gmail when I go into Gmail directly. What is the difference between "sent mail" and "sent messages" and did the damn e-mail go out or not? I don't want to bother this person unnecessarily with my computer issues.
I just got married! Yay! And I wanted to change my email address to reflect my new name. But that is turning out to be difficult. [more inside]
