At work I use Gmail and Google calendar. For meetings that I run, I want to be automatically reminded to send out agendas and reminders to the rest of the attendees. [more inside]
I'd like to export past and future emails received by a pair of GMail accounts to my own local disk, or some other (non-Google) archiving solution. I'd like to do this automatically and regularly, with minimal intervention, without adding these accounts to my primary mail client. Hope me? [more inside]
I recently bought a new Alcatel One Touch 7 Tab, running Jelly Bean. It has a lot of problems, often it takes several seconds to respond, apps freeze, it has graphical issues with some games that aren't necessarily new, some apps don't even run, and it hangs when going from one app to another. With my gmail account I am in frequent contact with a particular individual. So frequent that our emails are kind of a mess, and I want to know if I can organize them in any way. [more inside]
I would like to use the gmail interface for my own domain. Is this possible without relying on google servers, which are blocked in China? (details inside) [more inside]
Can I use Gmail for my own domain for free? Googling around suggests that this is possible, yet signing up for Google Apps for Business implies a $5 cost/month starting in 30 days. What gives? Do any of you use Gmail for your own domains? I need 2-3 email addresses to work on my domain, hosted off of Gmail.
I used to be an inbox-zero person, but I can't do it any more.; I simply don't have the time. I've got a vast army of filters in use already. I just need a workable system for using email. Client & gmail etc etc inside. [more inside]
My mother's Google account was recently broken into by phishers. They changed her password and phone number. In her attempts to recover her account, she made several major mistakes early on and it now seems like she may not be able to recover the account via the tools provided by Google. All of her financial information is in this account, and she's going a little nuts. [more inside]
I need help with gmail functionality. I need to figure out how many(ish) extra hours I generally work. I think an easy way to capture part of this is to check out the volume of email sent outside of my working hours. Is there a reasonably easy way to do this? [more inside]
This morning, a relative called saying I had sent them spam from my Gmail account. I ran to the computer, checked Gmail's login history, but found nothing suspicious. I checked the spam folder, and sure enough, two pieces of spam with a link to a phishing site which Safari immediately picked up as such (I know, bad idea to click it at all) had been sent to every one of my contacts. I know anyone can spoof anyone else's email, despite the best attempts at protection by Gmail and such. My question is: how did they get my contacts? How can I make this spoofing harder, or at least prevent access to my contacts in the future? (Further details inside.) [more inside]
I live internationally, mostly in China. My IP adress changes on an hourly basis. [more inside]
I love me some Gmail, so I'm kind of peeved with its most recent shenanigans. I rarely check my Trash, but out of curiosity I did this week and found a lot of messages that should not have been in the Trash. [more inside]
I think my Dad's gmail account got hacked while he was in Cambodia at the start of the month. We have no idea how. What should we do beyond changing the password and alerting the banks and credit card companies? [more inside]
Gmail is suddenly sending lots of important messages into my spam folder. I've followed the rudimentary steps I have found in their help area, but perhaps you can help me better? [more inside]
Gmail does a great job of filtering spam at the site but it's all getting fetched to Mail on my iPhone & iPad. What do I do to get only "primary" mail in Mail?
I have several google apps accounts with email inboxes for each. On my Firefox toolbar I have bookmarks for each of those email accounts in the usual format https://mail.google.com/a/yourdomain.com with my different domains substituted for yourdomain.com of course. Up until yesterday each one of those bookmarks dutifully opened the inbox of the right domain's email account... [more inside]
When we get married next year, my fiancee wants a new email address to match her "new" full name. The Gmail version of firstname.lastname@example.org is taken and she's bummed out. I had the thought that it might be just as good to have email@example.com, and then she can just forward it to her current gmail address. [more inside]
As long as I've had an iPhone I've used the default email app, Mail, linked to my primary gmail address, along with my secondary gmail address that forwards to my primary mailbox. After upgrading my iPhone 5 to the 6, I've lost the ability to use an Exchange account for gmail so that new mail pushes to the Mail app. See here. [more inside]
We use the free Google Apps at our non-profit for about 5 heavy users who have hit storage limits, 30 light and another 30+ who need to access our Google Drive and other domain-limited sites. Previously we switched heavy users to a new account with access to the previous account, plus forwards as a work-around. Google's helpdesk says upgrade only as we're non-US. Does anyone have a better solution? We use Google spreadsheets and several marketplace apps, and otherwise are super-happy with Google but $4000/annually is a big upgrade bill!
About a year ago, someone signed up for a Paypal account, using my firstname.lastname@example.org email address. I ignored the activation email, but somehow that has not kept me from continuing to receive account updates, receipts, etc. Hope me get the person to change the email associated with the account to one that person owns; and by extension, allow me to claim the Paypal account associated with my email. Some guy used my (secondary) e-mail address when he signed up for Facebook, so now I am getting zillions of friend requests, status updates, personal messages, etc., via Facebook that are meant for him. My goal is to somehow bring this to his attention and get him to use his real email address. [more inside]
I have a primary and a secondary gmail adress. The first address is email@example.com, the secondary address is firstname.lastname@example.org. I have been using both for years. Since a couple of weeks, people cannot send me email onto my secondary address. I have tried it myself, it says "Technical details of permanent failure: Account disabled" [more inside]
I am looking for another free/cheap web mail app that I can use to contact the ten people I normally correspond with. Any recommendations? [more inside]
I'm responsible for the IT for a small business, and I'm constantly worried that one of our users, despite my frequent warnings, will click on a gmail phishing link accidentally, perhaps in an early morning daze. I know that Google and some others (Netcraft and Wot) maintain blacklists, but I'm sure none of those have nearly perfect coverage. So I'm basically just looking for an extension or pre-existing option (that I might not know about) which warns the user clicking on an email link, unless the destination domain is on a whitelist. [more inside]
I'm working with someone (outside of the US) who is getting a series of harassing emails to her GMail account. The abuser is sending from a number of addresses, and is thus hard to identify or block by account. Is there a way to get GMail to block mail by IP address? Filters don't seem to do it, and I doubt reporting the abuse to Google will get a response. Other solutions would also be appreciated (yes, I am talking to her about potentially using other services). Thanks!
Are there any iOS apps or desktop Mac OS apps that play nice with gmail's tabbed inbox? I realize some do priority inbox, but that's not what I want. [more inside]

My email is hosted on Outlook.com, using their recently discontinued live.domains.com service. It's fine, but I'm concerned that eventually, MS will stop supporting existing accounts using the service. What's a good hosted IMAP email service that's reliable, supports domains and aliases, and is relatively simple to configure? [more inside]
Has the "experimental" browser on newer models of Amazon Kiindle gotten any better? Gmail keeps threatening that soon it will no longer support the native browser on my Kindle 3 (keyboard), but upgrading to Chrome as is suggested is not an option. The Kindle 5 looks like it has a browser, is it just the same, or has it improved over time? Does anyone offer a better browser for Kindle as an app?
I finally installed IFTTT but I feel like I'm not getting as much out of it as I could. [more inside]
Is there a way to query gmail to give me a list of every unique "TO:" address that exists in my All Mail folder? [more inside]
Hey guys. So I'm trying to determine how far I've flown over the past five years; I'd like to search my Gmail account for every flight confirmation, but the results are terrible--it seems like the search is bringing up all kinds of unrelated emails. Does anyone know of a better way to do this? Thanks!
I have a Gmail account, and I use Mail. I am signed up to a listserv. I get most of the emails sent to this listserv in my inbox, but some of them get spam-filtered and sent straight to junk. [more inside]
Recently, a friend's mother received a few emails from someone with a Gmail address. The emails were sent to my friend's mother as well at least a hundred of her professional colleagues. The problem is that the emails included a (faked) pornographic image that is supposed to be of my friend's mom. What steps should my friend's mother take to do something about this? [more inside]
Over the last month, google informed me that my gmail account had been hacked several times. Each time I dutifully changed my password (on the official google site--not the link posted in the warning email). Now, however, I am running into a problem. I can no longer log into to gmail on any computer that isn't one of my home computers or iphone. Every time I do I get the notice from google that "Your password was changed [x] number of days ago." I keep re-entering new password and nothing happens but the above message. Any advice? thanks
What are the real risks to having a google account? What are the benefits to staying out of Google's ecosystem that outweigh the inconvenience? [more inside]
I want to fly through my email. GTD/Zero inbox style. Trouble multiple accounts including .Mac, gmail and Gmail for business. I thought I found a desktop client - MailPilot for OSX - but it's just not doing well enough (it's development is too slow.) Meanwhile, I hear that you can be super clever with Gmail - More inside! My company recently decided to move everyone from Outlook to Google Apps. Now a lot of people who are used to Outlook (and MS Office) in all things are being hit with a new environment. It's going okay, but I've volunteered to give a short presentation on how to make the most of the new tools, since I have a lot of experience using them for my personal stuff. Can folks suggest good online resources either for me to mine for tips, or to hand out to users for their own reference later? [more inside]
I have Gmail old calendars from an old workplace on my iPhone that it all of a sudden revived and seems steadfastly opposed to allowing me to remove. They're no longer there when I open my Gmail calendars in my browser, but I've unlinked and relinked my Gmail account to my iPhone and they're still there, driving me fucking crazy with hourly reminders about shit I will never have to do again. Please help me restore sanity. [more inside]
I have moved from Argentina back to the UK. Whilst there I set up my Google account with 2-Step Verification using my Argentinian phone number. Now back in the UK I no longer have access to that phone and as I unpacked I realised I threw away the notebook in which I jotted down the emergency codes in the move. Am I screwed? [more inside]
IMAP is supposed to be able to preserve message state information across clients. So why is it that my email read/unread states aren't transferring from my Macbook to my iPhone? [more inside]
I'm in an emergency email situation. I need to transfer all of my gmail (but company based) emails (100,000 maybe?) to somewhere separate and secure. Quickly, and cost doesn't matter. [more inside]
I sent myself an important tax document as an attachment this afternoon, sending it from my corporate gmail account to myself at the same address. No one was cc'd or bccd. an hour later a coworker wrote me and asked: did you mean to send this to me? He had received my message and attachment... I checked my sent messages and found the message i sent to myself but nothing to him and he was not Bcc'd. How could this have happened? His name and mine are not close by the way.
As part of a general digital cleanup (thank you, Heartbleed), I want to perform the long overdue task of backing up my Gmail account (with nearly a decade's worth of email) to my mac. I have two questions: 1) Is gmvault the only option? Is there anything more accessible to a user who hasn't used Terminal with any regularity in eight years, and even then wasn't very proficient using the command line? 2) If gmvault is the only option, or the most accessible option, can someone explain very clearly how to run it? I am unable to successfully follow the instructions on the gmvault website--they seem to assume that I'll intuit some necessary steps, when I actually need every step laid out for me.
A few days ago I was searching for an email in my Gmail inbox and entered the email address of the person I knew it was from -- let's say email@example.com. I don't know what I did wrong during this very mundane occurrence, but ever since then "firstname.lastname@example.org" has been aggressively filling itself in on google-related search boxes in Chrome, preventing me from using Google effectively. How can I make it stop? [more inside]

I'm looking for a new home for three IMAP inboxes. Each one should be able to handle up to 10-15 GB of stored mail. I want a reliable long-term service that is supported by fees rather than ads. [more inside]
After a couple years of never seeing this, I try to load Gmail on an iPad2 (with the latest, fully updated OS), the blue, site-loading bar zips from left to right very, very quickly -- twice once in a while -- and the screen below the toolbar stays blank. Reloading gets nothing done. (I can get to Gmail just fine via the app, on my laptop, etc.) I've looked around a good bit, found no helpful information. Anyone know how to sort this? Big thanks for any help you can provide.
I help manage a small nonprofit that regularly sends out batches of emails notifying people of upcoming opportunities. Either we're experiencing an upward trend in flakes, or some of our messages are being flagged as spam, or banished to a gmail tab. Looking for pragmatic solutions for increasing our (suspected) delivery rate. [more inside]
