Does climate change ever work in farmers favor? If one region becomes inhospitable for growing a crop due to climate change (like coffee in Peru), does it mean another part of the world may become perfect for growing that crop that was previously not?

As serious as global warming is, and as close as we've come to the point of no return, I find it incredible that there isn't at least a moderate-scale boycott against the oil companies that are behind the public misinformation campaign and lobbying against legislation. And if not a boycott, at least some sort of active protests. Am I just looking in the wrong places? Wouldn't a boycott of say ExxonMobil (from what I've read one of the largest supporter of the denialist machine) by a few tens of thousands have an impact? Or is their revenue just too big?

A colleague's (adult) daughter was recently diagnosed with Global Ischemia and they are looking for support resources - books, support groups online or in person, basically anything that can help them cope with this
would be helpful. My colleague is not very tech savvy so I am hoping to compile a list of resources to make it easy for them to browse. Any other helpful tips or advice appreciated!

In his book
Storms of My Grandchildren, James Hansen makes the case that phasing out coal is the most important thing for humanity to do, to reduce the chances of catastrophic climate change. As such, my question is this: which organizations in Canada and the US are doing the most to advance that aim, both domestically and internationally?

In January, I'm leaving the US for Europe, where I'll be for the next six months, if not more. I want to buy an E-reader, so I can continue to read books in English, and also to save myself from lugging books back and forth. Given the circumstances, seems to me the best choice is to buy a Kindle 2 right now. Am I right?

With regards to psychotherapy, a common opinion I've noticed on MetaFilter is that Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy is perceived as being the most efficient way to go, in addition to being one of the very few therapies likely to be reimbursed by health insurance. However, this may be coming from a largely
American perspective. As such, I'm curious: What are some major features of psychotherapy in countries other than the United States?

In high school, I remember a teacher who taped some news show and showed it to us in class and it said that we had like, ten years to turn the planet around or global warming and our First World lifestyle where ten percent of the planet caused fifty percent of the emissions or something would push us past the point of no return. Anyway, my question is, have we passed it yet? When can I stop caring about the Environment?
