A friend of mine just got new glasses (for distance/night) and everything is super sharp... unless it's up close. Then, it's blurry. For instance, he can't read his phone at arm's length. He can read his phone perfectly without glasses and things become blurry for him without glasses at about 25 feet. I don't think this is normal for glasses. It's certainly not the way my glasses work. What say the hive? [more inside]

How do you adjust plastic eyeglass frames? I have always had wire frames which are easily adjusted (and easily knocked out of true). Can plastic frames be adjusted? Do they need adjusting? Any other opinions on plastic vs. wire?

What movie or TV show was this? This has been nagging at me for years!
Around 1978 or 1979, when I was 7 or 8 years old, I remember seeing a creepy teaser on TV for an upcoming movie, or episode of something, in which a man wearing dark glasses is speaking to someone off-screen. He says something like, "Don't go in there, kid, unless you want to end up ... like this!
" And then he removes the dark glasses, and instead of eyes he has two things that look like raised, white ridges with horizontal slits cut into them. Something like Inuit snow goggles
, but set into the eyes instead of connected in the middle.
I never saw the show and this is literally all I remember about it. A friend of mine thinks it might be The Omega Man
, but I'm pretty sure it isn't.

do you have a take on the quality/appeal of Mont Blanc for accessories like eyewear, wallets, etc? I seem to be running organically into recommendations for this brand as I find myself unable to afford the top makers in a category but I don't want to end up in a situation where I've gotten something that's neither reasonably priced nor extra-nice but ended up spending a chunk of money on no-man's land in between.

Have you been able to find Pantone Eyewear
anywhere in the US? The Where to Buy link on the website doesn't list any US resources, but I'm hoping (not entirely rationally, I recognize) that maybe there's a small shop somewhere that's not on the map. Alternately, I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who's had a good experience with ordering them from elsewhere in the world and having them shipped to the US.

1. How old were you when you got bifocal lenses? 2. How difficult was it to adjust to them, particularly if you got contact lenses? 3. How many different pairs or combinations of lenses did you have to try before finding something that worked? 4. Are there new options in recent years that a near-sighted person with worsening close-up vision should know about? Thanks for helping me go to my eye doctor with good questions ready.

I am looking for a poem I read once online about an artist (Matisse? Gaugin?) who confronts his eye doctor about not wanting to wear eyeglasses. In the poem, the artist talks about how his blurry vision allows him to experience the world as connected. It's a really beautiful poem, but I can't find it through all of the eyeglasses spam on Google.
Can anyone point me to the poem?
