How do you, my fellow glasses/contacts wearers, handle swimming in pools? [more inside]
I am moderately nearsighted and currently wear glasses with a prescription of roughly -3 in each eye. I take my glasses off to read, and always have. This is not because writing appears blurry with my glasses on, but because reading with my glasses on causes my eyes to strain, or feels like it does, and it has always just felt more comfortable to take them off. Does this make me a bad candidate for contacts or corrective surgery? Do I just need to get used to reading with my vision corrected? Is this something bifocals/bifocal contacts can address?

My annual eye exam is coming up. I've had a years-long string of not-quite-right corrective lenses. What can I do to get an accurate prescription this time? [more inside]
After a bad experience I am finally ready to wear contact lenses again... but this time I want to be absolutely, totally, 100% safe and sterile about it. What steps should I take to minimize my chances of infection? [more inside]
Can anyone recommend an optometrist in Columbus, Ohio? [more inside]
When I wear contact lenses, I get bags under my eyes within about fifteen minutes. I wear toric lenses, if that matters. Is there anything I can do about this, or should I continue to stick to glasses?
Does Illinois have a law requiring vision professionals (optometrists in particular) to release spectacles (glasses) prescriptions to the patient? Contact lens prescriptions? [more inside]
Can I get by without bifocals, or am I fooling myself? I hate my Bausch and Lomb multi-focal soft lenses, but have hopes that glasses can be made to work. [more inside]
My Bigoted Left Eye: Have you successfully treated your contact lens intolerance, and how? [more inside]
Has anyone transitioned from rigid gas permeable contact lenses to glasses? Did your prescription stay stable? Why do glasses make me feel cross eyed and fuzzy headed compared to RGPs--do I just have to wait it out and get used to them, or was the prescription wrong? Can I wear RGPs part of the time and glasses part of the time? [NB: I've never gotten good answers on these questions from my eye doc.]
My 12 year old daughter wants to ditch her glasses for contacts. Problem: she can't seem to get past the first stage - actually getting one on her eye. I started wearing them at age 20 and had no trouble but I realize it's a tricky thing to learn initially, especially for a kid. Any tips for making that weird fingertip-in-the-eye process less frustrating? The blink reflex is mighty strong.
Spectacles only? I got a copy of my glasses prescription from my eye doctor, and it says "Spectacles only". I have an existing copy of my contact lens prescription, complete with measurements. If I keep the same numbers but substitute the new sphere measurements, can I order contacts with this prescription? [more inside]
