A couple of my friends are moving to Glasgow, Scotland for at least a year to play music and do the young Australian abroad thing for a while. I'd like to combine their farewell and wedding present (slightly belated) into a gift voucher they can use once they've moved over there. Any suggestions? [more inside]

I don't know anything about cellular providers in the UK, which is where I will be living for nine months starting this September. I need a phone in the UK, but I will also need one when I return to the US after nine months. I have a verizon cell phone right now, but I my two year agreement with them has expired, so I can cancel without being charged a termination fee. What are my best/least expensive options? I'm going to be visiting Glasgow, Scotland, and I wonder if anyone has a walking-tour guide or guide company that they like and would recommend. I'm interested in finding out about Scottish history, Glasgow architecture, etc. Google gives me tons of results and it's hard to choose one, so I'm hoping someone has recommendations they'd like to share. Thanks!

A friend and I have free tickets to Glasgow from around March 18-27. We may have a free place to stay in Edinburgh. Which city is more fun? Any insider tips for travelers or fun places to go that we won’t find in guide books? (more inside) [more inside]

GlasgowFilter: I am going to that fine city in a couple of days for my sister's wedding. Looking for any good book/record/vintage shops in town, as well as any not to be missed modern architecture (outside of Charles Rennie Mac). Ta much.

I'm hoping to spend a few days in Glasgow in September but I'm hitting a wall in finding a hotel because of the cost hike due to the single supplement which in some cases is more than the actual cost of the room. Any singletons out there been to the city and stayed in a reasonably priced hotel?
