My two-year-old is insistent that we should give his aunt (my sister) an ice cream cake for her birthday on Sunday. Does one of Seattle's many specialty ice cream shops deliver to the Atlantic/Pratt Park area near downtown? I almost found success with Gelatiamo, but they only deliver to businesses. Her birthday is Sunday, but delivery tomorrow or Saturday would be fine, too, of course.
My parents are taking off in a couple of months to go sailing for a year. I'd love to get or make or do something for a farewell present, but I have no idea what. Help! [more inside]
Seeking ideas for a graduation gift that we could buy in Italy for a fashion design major. [more inside]
For work reasons, I'm spending this week far from home, which means I'm going to miss my girlfriend's birthday tomorrow. Boo! We're going to make up for it when I get home, but I still want to mark the occasion by having something delivered to her at work. The obvious choice is flowers, of course. But can you suggest something else romantic and sweet that would be less obvious? Something I can arrange remotely and have delivered to an office in Herndon, Va. tomorrow?
My friend, a former Los Angeles resident, was kind enough to have me stay at her place in New York City for several days recently, while I was visiting. As a token of my gratitude, I want to send along some kind of LA-specific trinket - you know, something you'd put on your desk at work or your bureau or fridge or whatever, that says, "Hey: Los Angeles" to someone who knows the place. Ten bucks or less is the range. What would you get, if you were in my position?
In a few weeks I'll be traveling for the last time to a remote place that my young kids will continue to visit for the rest of their lives. I'd like to leave some thing(s) behind for them to find over the next few years that will be fun, secret, and remind them of me. Difficulty level: humid/salty conditions, and other visitors who I don't want to find the items. [more inside]
Our first child is due in a few weeks and I would like to give him something extra romantic and special (maybe even a bit pampering) for V-Day before the big event. Desperately seeking suggestions, romantic gifting for men is hard! [more inside]
My bestest good friend of 20 years is pregnant! YAY! I'd like to get her something simple but awesome to commemorate this. What should I send? [more inside]
In February, my brother will be the age I was when he was born---or, to put it another way, I will be twice his age for the one and only time. To celebrate "double day," I would like to send him a box of double things---like double mint gum. Unfortunately, the only double thing I can think of is gum and a whole box of gum just seems a tad bit uninspiring. So hive mind, what else can I send that would fit the "double day" theme?
What are some good Birthday gift ideas for new mothers.... [more inside]
One of my best friends is graduating soon from a MSN program. He is already well established in his career, but he took an opportunity to continue his education. He has decided to walk at the ceremony. The ceremony is out of town, and requires flying, not within driving distance. Because we love him and want to show our support, me and my family were planning on going to the ceremony, but the cost of the trip and the time off work is not really doable. Even if I went by myself, it is pretty expensive, so travel has been pretty much ruled out. We would like to get him a gift that would be meaningful and personal, since we can't be there to cheer him on. We thought about a small party, but that seems a little cheesy and routine. We would really like to do something special. Any ideas?
I have a Hungarian friend with whom I exchange a large gift box every year at Christmas. She's moving to Australia to study this March, and so I want to send her a little extra care package when she moves, as I know it will be a hard relocation. In the past, I've sent her mostly non-edible goods (except for coconut M&Ms, which she loves, and Tabasco, sambal olec and Sriracha, as she hadn't tried them and we both love spicy foods). She has sent me a wealth of specifically Hungarian treats, including Erős Pista (a Hungarian spicy paste), poppy and nut cakes, Hungarian chocolates and jams, and even lozenges. I'd love to send her some typically American treats in my next box, but I can't think of what they might be! Thanks! [more inside]

Can you suggest some stocking stuffers for two boys, ages 11 and 13? They need to be inexpensive ($5ish) and ideally Amazon Prime items. Unsurprisingly, the boys like sports and video games. I'm a big reader though and I try to instill a reading habit in them when I can. [more inside]

I've been gifted a fruit basket. The problem is while there are lots of fruits I eat, I now find myself with a bunch of fat pears. Because I'm a picky eater, I don't like pears. However, since I'll be attending holiday parties, I figure there are probably some delicious pear recipes-cookies, desserts-that would allow me to share this gift with people who will actually enjoy them. I am looking for gift ideas for a Pollyanna gift exchange. The theme for the gift is "Royalty". The rules of the exchange allow various forms of trading so it doesn't have to be a gift targeted to any specific type of individual, just fit the theme. The participants are adults. Price range would be $25-$50.

I'd like to loan someone some money (a few thousand dollars). A friend needs it to finish school, and they don't have any good, low-interest options. I don't mind losing the money and forgiving the loan if they fall into hardship, but it would be a financial blow that I want to avoid; making it a straight up gift from the getgo is not appealing. Is it possible to have a bank or credit union draw up the loan and service it for a flat fee? Any other ways to make the whole thing impersonal, legal, and low-hassle for me, while keeping it forgiveable at my discretion without impacting my friend's credit? [more inside]

I would like to get a good gift for someone who is an avid knitter. She's already got a set of just about every needle type I know of (bamboo, double ended, circular, etc) so I think needles are pretty much out of the question. I thought about some nice yarn, but since that's kind of project-specific it'd be a bit presumptuous. So what awesome must-have and never knew it kind of gear would you suggest? [more inside]
