Friend didn't like a book I gifted... why am I so upset?

I recently gave a book to a friend for her birthday, she seemed happy, all was well. I later asked her how she liked it; turns out she couldn't get into it and ended up stopping halfway through. I was much more hurt by this admission than I feel I should have been. If someone doesn't like something I'm sharing with them, I often feel personally offended/rejected and have no clue why. How can I not feel so disappointed if my gifts aren't as well-received as I hoped they would be? [more inside]

Are you a realtor? What's the nicest gift a buyer has given you?

We adore our realtor, and are about to close on our new house. We want to give him a thank you gift, but champagne just doesn't seem like enough, nor particularly original. Any suggestions? Possibly pertinent: he's single, 50, fit, mild-mannered, very kind. We could spend $50-$75 (more?). Thanks!

For it is in giving that we receive

What are some workplace holiday gift ideas for my two hip, cultured, smart, (and imo underpaid) mid-20s employees? They're full-time employees and I work with them very closely. I want to get them really great gifts that aren't wildly impersonal and aren't for the workplace, in the $75-100 range and not food- or drink-related. All I can think of is spa gift cards. Surely there are better ideas, right?

Perhaps this Santa is too Secret

Secret Santa gift for a girl that I don't know too well. I can't provide too much information, but she's 21, college educated, has a fairly bubbly personality, and likes the Ravens. What are some good generic gifts for someone in this age range with this extremely vague set of descriptors? I'm trying to avoid gift cards. Price range is $20 to $30 dollars. [more inside]

It's only marriage number 2; I should do better than a card, right?

My father (a widower) is getting remarried quite soon. Can you help me come up with an appropriate, ideally "experience-based" wedding gift for somewhere in the vicinity of southern Ohio?
