I pride myself on being the best gift giver ever and I think I have nailed the idea for my Secret Santa this year, a Wholefoods Cookbook with accompanying produce. The thing is, I don't really know what wholefoods are, and the book is a week or 2 away (being sent from OS). I need this gift in the post around mid November so want to start my shopping for the produce now. Please help me, what kinds of awesome things can I put in the hamper? It can be snacks and grocery type things for cooking. Nothing that needs to be refrigerated. Im thinking dried beans, wholemeal pasta, that kind of thing. The book is 'Cooking with Wholefoods: A guide to healthy natural ingredients, and how to use them with 100 delicious recipes... by Nicola Graimes.' Thank you.

My niece celebrates her eleventh birthday soon. She loves to read. She lives in Canada; I live in the UK: for convenience’s sake I’d like to buy her books from Amazon.ca
as a gift. Besides reading, her previous interests have included princesses, ballet and cupcakes—the latter leading me to order to some volumes from The Cupcake Diaries
as last year’s gift. What’s new and cool in the world of books if you’re Canadian and eleven?

I'm visiting a friend in Milwaukee, WI and would like to bring something from LA (or California in general) that maybe one would not be able to easily obtain in Milwaukee. She's been to LA before, and recently had a baby, so at the very least I will take adorable baby stuff, but a region-specific gift would be fun, if I could only think of something worthwhile! It has to be something I can carry with me on a plane.

Great Aunt Sue gives me a ring. She doesn't wear it because it was given to her by an ex many moons ago, so she doesn't care what I do with it either. I don't like it, so I decide to sell it. It is vintage and very valuable. Turns out it is worth 20K fair market. I sell it for just that to an individual. How does that work as far as capital gains/ loss go? Is it considered a gift or income? Does it get reported, do I report it, do they, should she have for giving away the jewelry, does the bank flag the deposit and report it? No clue. Everything I have read is in regards to stocks, real estate, or inherited stuff. Can you explain this to me?
This is all hypothetical, I'm just curious, so please don't send me off to an accountant/ lawyer/ taxman.

What is a thoughtful gift (in the $100 range) for someone who loves perfume, but whom I do not know very well? I obviously wouldnt choose a scent for her but would still like to give her sonething relating to her love of perfume. She is in the UK and I am in the USA, so if I send her a gift certificate to a perfumerie it needs to be one she can visit in London. However if there is a non-gift card present you can recommend as well, so much the better. Thanks!

I have a very good friend who is getting married - I am her maid of honor. She is having a destination wedding, and told guests that she and her husband do not want any gifts, as us making the trip is gift enough. I got a couple small, sentimental things for her that will be meaningful, but I also want to get a nice gift for the couple, especially since they got us some generous gifts from our registry when we got married. So ... I'd like to give our friend a hosting gift. [more inside]

I have a friend who is very proud of her tattoos.
I would like to get her a special gift. My first thought was a photography session, but her brother is a photographer and has already given her such sessions in the past.
I had a crazy idea and I was wondering if there's any reality to it: Is there any such thing as scanning tattoos?
For instance, like pressing the body part with the tattoo against a flatbed scanner and creating a high-quality artistic print of the tattoo itself?
Or does this separate the tattoo for the reality of its place on her body in such a way to invalidate the whole purpose of it?
If this is a stupid idea, can you suggest others?

It was all pretty late notice and none of her friends from over here will be attending. Some friends are road-tripping from Seattle, WA to visit family for a couple weeks in Lincoln, NE starting next weekend, and trying to save money where possible. I'd like to give them a gift of a meal or something else they can use along the way or during their stay in Nebraska. They are 2 adults, 2 kids around 10 (give or take) and an 18-month-old. I need to be able to buy it in Seattle or buy it online and print it out. Budget $40-50, but that can stretch for the right need. Click here for snowflakiness: [more inside]

My two good friends are getting hitched in September. Both are going to be present at the 'wedding shower'. I'm trying to come up with a good gift to give them that is outdoor/nature themed. My original idea was to get them something like a double person sleeping bag (way too expensive though.. $200+) and now I'm still trying to put something together.
I will probably add in a giftcard with $20 on it for them to purchase midnight snacks, smores ingredients.
As their wedding gift I will be getting them the National Park Annual Pass which is why I'm hoping their gift now can be used during their camping/hiking adventures.
They have all the typical gear like tents, boots, etc.
Any other clever ideas out there?
