My sister-in-law-to-be will be in London for one month studying this summer. Any ideas for an appropriate gift as I wish her a fun trip? She's been very helpful as Maid of Honor and just a wonderful friend/sister and I want to get her something.
She's a girly-girl from NYC. Thanks.

A friend of mine is off to Europe for a month this fall and as she happens to have a birthday between now and then, I figured it would be a good idea to give her presents that might be useful on such a trip. Not having done it myself, though, I'm not sure what would be most useful.

I recently went to a wedding in Israel with a group of friends. The groom's in-laws let us borrow their car for a week and a friend of the bride acted as tour guide for several days. I'd like to get them each a nice gift in the $100 range, preferably something uniquely American. The inlaws are a 50-ish, fairly cosmopolitan married couple and the bride's friend is a single 30-ish woman. Any suggestions?

A friend is becoming ordained as a full pastor in the methodist church this spring. He currently is a pastor of a small congregation, of which I am not a member. Any ideas on an appropriate gift? There is a group of five of us who would like to chip in between $30-$60 US and buy something together.

A friend is graduating law school on Saturday, I'd like to give him a gift to mark the occassion. My only qualifiers are that the cost not exceed $100 and the present not be something obvious, which is to say something that he might get from someone else or buy himself. I'd be grateful for any suggestions.

I need help finding a Christmas gift. My girlfriend mentioned recently that she was a big fan of a particular type of cartoon and I'm having trouble finding out 1) what they are exactly, and 2) whether or not they're available for purchase.
The cartoons had a very 1950's feel to them, and the subject matter always dealt with a prediction of the future. Like a cartoony take on what life would be like in the year 2000 from the perspective of the 1950's. They usually played with the classic Looney Toons cartoons on Saturday mornings when I was a kid.
Not much to go on, I know. Any leads?

My daughter (18) is a great fan of Bridget Jones. On her Christmas list this year is 'a diary'. Putting 2 and 2 together, I have been searching for a Bridget Jones Diary er, Diary (if you see what I mean).
You know the kind of thing. Imagine a "Winnie the Pooh" Diary with pictures and information (as well as being a diary too). But with stuff from the Bridget Jones Film.
Can't find one anywhere. Have the marketing people missed this wonderful opportunity for Christmas and 2005?

I'd like to show my appreciation to the
gardien of my apartment building. He helped me carry a washing machine up 8 floors some months ago, and he's a real nice guy. However, he's a practicing Muslim, so a bottle of wine won't do. In France, people often give an end-of-year gift for Christmas to the postman, etc. Ramadan is ending soon and the Eid is coming up. He's a fairly young, single guy, and recently he's had back trouble. Any ideas, seasonal or no?
Tips and thank you gifts always feel a bit weird to me. They can feel feudal or mafia-like ("I
owe you"). Maybe I shouldn't give anything and just keep being a friendly, appreciative neighbor.
