We'd like to get some thoughtful 'thank-you' presents for 3 people who helped us with our adoption last year. But we don't know them that well, don't want to give just a token, and don't want to give an impersonal gift card. [more inside]
My boss gave me a very (very) generous gift. What is an appropriate way to thank him? Buying him things seems a little gauche as his price range is so far above mine. I was thinking a card but that seems like not enough for what the gift was. Hope me?
We need to get gifts for the wonderful team of people who are helping us get married. Please advise. [more inside]
I committed a party faux pas at a dear friend's fairly rowdy Christmas brunch and I'd like to get her an apology gift, with a twist. [more inside]
I'd like to get a thank-you gift for someone who likes chess (probably a book but I'd be open to other suggestions). I don't know anything about chess; what should I get him? [more inside]
Mr. Fig is in the process of scheduling a vasectomy. I'd like to get him a small thank-you gift for 'taking one for the team' (ie, having surgery so I don't have to), and to commemorate our decision as a couple to remain childless. Basically, I'm looking for the inverse of a Push Present. I need ideas of what to give to him. [more inside]
They have a popcorn maker. They have popcorn buckets, bags, and scoops. But I'm in search of a popcorn-related gift I can get some popcorn-heads in Toronto, ideally by tomorrow. These people are popcorn purists and it's really hard to get them anything popcorn-related that they don't already have. Their holy grail is "savoy salt," which I've never even heard of. What do I get these folks? Where might I get it?

What's a good thank you gift for a total stranger who did me a great kindness? He returned my lost cell phone, car keys, credit cards, wedding ring and cash - more than $1,000 in misplaced possessions - and asked for nothing in return. All I know about him: His name and mailing address from the envelope, and the fact that he lives somewhere so rural that a Starbucks card will carry no value. [more inside]
What generic thank-you gift (between $10-20) can I give to someone working in SF when the only contact information I have is their iPhone number? [more inside]
A very particular kind of thank you gift. I'd like to make (possibly purchase, but not ideal) gifts for the folks who farm our home/estate vineyard. It's the hardest I've ever seen anyone work, in any year. They went NEXT LEVEL on us this year. It's shaping up as a great vintage, but still. These folks went beyond. I have some skills in the gift-making department, but this has to be crazy special. [more inside]
Great gift ideas that would delight a mechanics shop. Diesel repair in TN, if that matters. In the $50-75 range. [more inside]
I just got tenure at a small college. I'd like to thank the people who helped make this happen for me. What's appropriate?

One of my professors from last semester has been so incredibly kind, helpful, and supportive of me despite how difficult things were academically for me last semester. I want to thank this professor, but I don't know what's appropriate because I have never given a professor a gift before. What are some sentimental gifts that can accompany a handwritten note? In a few days I will be staying with friend's family in western France, at a house they own. I will be in the UK the next few days. Normally I would bring wine or chocolates as a thank you for the accommodation, but France does these much better and cheaper than the UK (I am told). I am Canadian. What could I bring that would still be a great gift, that I could find in London? It should be something like food or drink, and something of benefit to people on vacation. Price about $50. The friends I am visiting are French/Canadian and appreciate quality/luxury

Suggestions for a gift for coworkers - Yesterday I broke my toe playing volleyball at a company retreat. I appreciated the support from two employees (coworker who cleaned it up, and taped it up, and one who took me to the ER, waited for me, gave me a good dinner, and offered to drive me home because I have a standard). I would like to give each of them a gift as a thank you. Suggestions?

My family would really like to send a thank you gift to the heart surgeon who operated on my father. First, this is okay to do, right? And second, if yes, what would a married doctor with kids like to get? I've spent 2 hours looking at gift baskets, but many are for sweet foods and (1) I think he practices Lent; and (2) he just lost a bunch of weight. I may go with a healthy (sort of) food basket, but can anyone recommend something else, maybe unrelated to food, that I'm overlooking? Other than a heart gelatin mold? Like a Netflix membership, except I'm not sure he doesn't already have one.
