My partner has a birthday coming up and I'm looking for a gift. She is in the habit of listening to the radio on her phone while she does chores around the house or works from home, so I want to get her something a bit nicer to listen on. Specifics inside. [more inside]
An Italian penpal and friend from Turin sent me a wonderful gift and I would like to reciprocate. I love chocolates and Italian food generally, so she sent me an assortment of very high end chocolates from Guido Gobino (super fancy, well known Turin brand). I'd like to get her something in return that is unique, special, and can't be found in Italy. [more inside]
My direct manager is having an open house / work-related party tonight (the 30th) and he has invited me and most of the department. We are planning on bringing a small 'host' gift, i.e. flowers or chocolates. Since it is so close to Christmas my wife thinks that we should also bring a small gift for each of my manager's two children (~6 and ~2 years old). I'm unsure whether this would be seen as 'sucking up' or if this is a good idea. [more inside]
THE SITUATION: One of my good friends loves foxes. "Obsessed" is a strong word, but... she is deeply enamored. Fox socks, fox backpack, fox everything. [more inside]
Where can I find a classic, professor-style tweed blazer... cut for a woman? (Serious bonus points: before Christmas??) [more inside]
Asking for a friend. What one book would you recommend for a college aged son who has specifically requested a book "to learn about something"? He's a really great kid who has really matured a lot in the past year - business major, likes sports. Open to all suggestions!
What great DIY food gifts are out there that can be made on short notice, don't contain pricey specialty ingredients, and can be packaged in cellophane or something similar, to be transported and given out as individual treats? [more inside]
My wife loves taking tight photos of flowers, bees and other stuff of that scale. She's not really trying to do true macro photography and I'm not entirely confident that she'd have the patience to deal with a complicated DSLR. I know that all the new point and shoots out there are capable enough to do closeup work and this question has been covered in previous years but I'm wondering if there are any standouts in the late 2014 camera lineup. I recently learned that my (retired) mom is interested in writing, and I would like to get her a book in support of this. Bird by Bird would have been perfect, but she's already read that one. Can you suggest other books have that same feel? [more inside]
I have two gift cards with small amounts on them (just under $5 total) and to be honest I'd much rather give it to a charity than mess with trying to spend it at the store. It seems like a trivial amount but I figure it'd be better than nothing. The problem I'm having is finding a cause that will accept less than ten dollars by card. Any ideas?
Inspired by this thread, I'd like to go all out wrapping Christmas gifts for my wife this year. What ideas, concepts, methods, etc. have you used in the past, or seen online that are sure to impress? [more inside]
For more than two months I've been taking one photo of the view overlooking the river and trees outside the kitchen window. Is there a visually creative way yet somewhat quick way I can print this into a wall sized poster? [more inside]

Another secret Santa question...but I'm a remote employee, and so is my recipient (who I've never met, and who is relatively new to the company). Literally all I know about Recipient is what field his/her PhD is in (something science-y). $25-ish limit (maybe a bit more). Ideas please?

Recently, I searched for hours online for a brag book for my grandmother as a gift. I found one that fit the bill, but stupidly did not save the page. It was leather, textured/snakeskin-like cover, a 4x6, with about 10-20 leaves, high quality - about $60 or so, and also able to be monogrammed. I cannot, for the life of me, find another that meets these specifications. It's hard to find books this small that are high quality. Can anyone help? I don't need that exact one (though that would be awesome), just a few companies that make things like this.

My very best bestie in the whole wide world just had a baby girl. Hooray! The first week of her little life was Very, Very Scary, but the stubborn little nugget fought her way through and is now home and safe and ready to get on with Life and Growing and Becoming a Someone. I've already made a donation in her name to the amazing children's hospital that saved her life, but I'd like to send a physical gift for the little monkey, too. What should I get? [more inside]

What is the best way to give a gift card to help pay for plane tickets for domestic US travel? It can't tie the recipient down to a particular airline and it must be a gift card, so please don't tell me to give cash. That would obviously be best.

When we were in London we saw a fun craft-toy called Sticker Scratcherz at both Hamleys and Harrods. We figured we'd find something like it elsewhere as well, but haven't had any luck, so I'm hoping maybe a mefite knows of something else like this. Preferably, it would be not as expensive, for a bit less content (if it were half price for half the amount of stickers it would make a great casual gift). [more inside]
I am in the US. My brother is in Europe on business, his first time out of the US, and will be there for about another six months. Right now he's in Germany, but the list of additional countries he'll go to later doesn't seem to be finalized. His birthday is coming up, and I want to send him a gift that won't generate logistical problems for him. [more inside]
My father is gifting me his shotgun. He and the gun are in Maryland. I am in New Mexico. Googling tells me that if he handed to me in person there would be no issues and no paperwork required. It also tells me that to be shipped interstate the gun can't be shipped to me directly but must be shipped to someone with an FFL. Apparently My father can ship it out even though he does not have an FFL but the recipient must be licensed. [more inside]
My best friend is getting married in a few weeks and I need to get her a gift. Since she and her fiance already have most of what they need for their home (consolidating two apartments into one), I don't want to get them a thing, but maybe some sort of subscription where they get something delivered every month. I need suggestions please. [more inside]

Trying to come up with inspirational sayings for boundary enforcement, something that can be embroidered or engraved. Some sort of physical embodiment of this saying will be created. The idea should be you can't save everyone, you need to not take on the pain of the world, everything is not on your shoulders, you can say no, et cetera. [more inside]

I'd like to get him a small thank-you gift for 'taking one for the team' (ie, having surgery so I don't have to), and to commemorate our decision as a couple to remain childless. Basically, I'm looking for the inverse of a Push Present. I need ideas of what to give to him. [more inside]

My mum makes me an advent calendar with little gifts and chocolates every year. The past two days I've unpacked a nail and a piece of a vinyl disc - she says these are clues to an event on Monday. She had previously asked me to keep a two hour slot at an allotted time free the day after tomorrow. Now I wanna know what treat I'm in for (I can only assume it's something positive!) but I cannot for the life of me figure out what this could be. I mean, I have one idea but don't wanna list it here as to not distract you. I'd really like to see what you guys might come up with. (Full disclosure: There's a chance this is a play on words and my mother is German. Nail is "der Nagel" and for the disc I have apparently not figured out the correct term yet...)

I need help finding a Christmas gift for my dad. I'm looking for: - Something that requires occasional hands on -- a project, but not a full-time project - Something a little science-projecty and geeky, but that does not involve a computer (he's 72 and not terribly computer literate; he does have an iPad, though) - Something that has a definable end result - Something he can attend to while my folks spend three months in their RV this winter - Most likely something plant-related More... I have one day left to online shop for my brother's Christmas pressie and I'm drawing a blank. I've already gotten him a couple of things, but I need one more item to make it a worthwhile parcel. He is 33, a drummer, and wears casual, laid back clothes, but no "funny" tees etc. Is there a t-shirt/ book/ small piece of drumming gadgetry/ anybloodything that would suit him? Will have to be available in an online UK store for it to be delivered in time, and my budget is about £20-25. He will be travelling back to London from Belfast after Christmas so it needs to fit in carry-on luggage. Thanks!
