Don't Let Them Get to You - But better phrasing?

Trying to come up with inspirational sayings for boundary enforcement, something that can be embroidered or engraved. Some sort of physical embodiment of this saying will be created. The idea should be you can't save everyone, you need to not take on the pain of the world, everything is not on your shoulders, you can say no, et cetera. [more inside]

Big 'V' Commemoration Gift

Mr. Fig is in the process of scheduling a vasectomy. I'd like to get him a small thank-you gift for 'taking one for the team' (ie, having surgery so I don't have to), and to commemorate our decision as a couple to remain childless. Basically, I'm looking for the inverse of a Push Present. I need ideas of what to give to him. [more inside]

Birthday gift for dude who studies Poland & Eastern Europe

My guy is turning 24 this Thursday, so I am casting around for a birthday gift. He studies Poland and Eastern Europe. He lived in Poland for a couple years while working as a journalist, and he remains fascinated by Polish culture and history. I was thinking that I could get him some Polish "comfort" items--specialty snacks, etc. Any ideas, AskMeFites?

Help me figure out clues to a gift please

My mum makes me an advent calendar with little gifts and chocolates every year. The past two days I've unpacked a nail and a piece of a vinyl disc - she says these are clues to an event on Monday. She had previously asked me to keep a two hour slot at an allotted time free the day after tomorrow. Now I wanna know what treat I'm in for (I can only assume it's something positive!) but I cannot for the life of me figure out what this could be. I mean, I have one idea but don't wanna list it here as to not distract you. I'd really like to see what you guys might come up with. (Full disclosure: There's a chance this is a play on words and my mother is German. Nail is "der Nagel" and for the disc I have apparently not figured out the correct term yet...)

Help with gift for Dad

I need help finding a Christmas gift for my dad. I'm looking for: - Something that requires occasional hands on -- a project, but not a full-time project - Something a little science-projecty and geeky, but that does not involve a computer (he's 72 and not terribly computer literate; he does have an iPad, though) - Something that has a definable end result - Something he can attend to while my folks spend three months in their RV this winter - Most likely something plant-related More... GiftFilter: Drummists - what (cheap) thing would you like for Christmas?

I have one day left to online shop for my brother's Christmas pressie and I'm drawing a blank. I've already gotten him a couple of things, but I need one more item to make it a worthwhile parcel. He is 33, a drummer, and wears casual, laid back clothes, but no "funny" tees etc. Is there a t-shirt/ book/ small piece of drumming gadgetry/ anybloodything that would suit him? Will have to be available in an online UK store for it to be delivered in time, and my budget is about £20-25. He will be travelling back to London from Belfast after Christmas so it needs to fit in carry-on luggage. Thanks!

Best leather men's belt for under $100?

I need suggestions for a durable leather men's belt under $100. My dad is one of those difficult to shop for people because he buys what he needs or wants himself. What do you give a cricket fan for his birthday?

My neighbor is a big cricket fan, which is a challenge in Brooklyn when it comes to watching games on television. ESPN's app for the XBox is not very good, but it offered coverage of the West Indian teams he was most interested in following, so I've hosted him a few times to give him a chance to watch. I've gained some appreciation for the sport myself, mostly because his enthusiasm is infectious. His birthday is coming up, and I'd like to give some cricket related gift. Searching the internet suggests that cricket doesn't spawn apparel and other merchandise like other sports do. Is that true? Are there test match team jerseys or anything like that? Other ideas for gifts that might please a cricket fan?
