A nice long soak.

Where can me and my boyfriend go for a weekend break within 2 hours (or so) drive from London (UK) that has a big bath, a hot tub, or similar. Me and my man love bathing together but unfortunatley this is impossible in our pokey flat. Were can we go and have a good, long, private soak? Im thinking essential oils, a bottle of wine, and some splishy splashy fun.

Anything under say...£200 per night, pluses include relaxing atmosphere, promise of a sound or entertainment system for our use, maybe somewhere that has the option of a massage or treatment also.

Napa tips?

Help me plan my romantic trip to Napa Valley. So I managed to book several days in wine country and I was hoping for any advice on making the best of our time there on a couple's getaway. We'll be there this week Monday-Thursday. Our main interests are of course food and drink, but we are hardly wine experts and I was hoping for tips on how best to sample what Napa has to offer. We will be in downtown Napa and we will have a car, though I'd definitely prefer to avoid its use if we'll be drinking wine. Is the wine train a bad idea? Are there any other fun things or interesting sights you'd recommend in the area?

For bonus points, I'd like to take the scenic coastal drive up to there from Los Angeles on the way in (I-5 coming back I guess). I'm willing to invest a whole day (starting early) for this, so if anyone has a good idea for stopping points (don't say San Francisco) or a route that won't run longer than about 10-12 hours I'd really appreciate it. Also let me know if PCH is just a bad idea to begin with.

Warmth and nature as far from NYC as possible. Oh, and a tight budget. My friend and I are looking to go somewhere warm and nature-y during the week between Christmas and New Year's. Our ideal get-away is the Grand Canyon, but it will cost too much money. We have access to a car and we're willing to drive. Trying to keep the cost to a few hundred dollars each. NYC is our starting point.

We would prefer some kind of lodging over tent camping, though with our budget, we have to be flexible.

Looking for an adventure. Any ideas?

Where can we go for a Tuesday night getaway near Boston? Veteran's day is Wednesday and I'd love to take my wife somewhere to escape Boston on Tuesday night. By the ocean, in the woods, in the mountains, or in a city in Western MA would all work. It doesn't need to be fancy (but we'd rather rustic charm than Days Inn). Within a 2 hr drive, and under $150 would be great (< $100 even better). Anyone know of such a place?

Weekend getaway near Vancouver

Where can I go this weekend from Vancouver? I would like to go away for a writing retreat this coming weekend. Probably Thursday to Tuesday morning.

Parameters: within 4 hours of Vancouver BC, power, cell coverage, ability to cook meals. Ideally, somewhat inspirational in terms of setting, just a good place to write and not a ridiculous amount of money.

The ideal spot would be someone's empty summer home on a Gulf Island, you know what I mean? (but I've used up my favours for this year)

3 day Honeymoon/getaway with 4 hrs drive of Central NJ?

Quick 2-3 day honeymoon within driving distance of NJ? New to the area, and out of ideas. Likes beaches, dining, spas, natural beauty, and romantic evenings. Help me find the best place to spend 3-4 days after our wedding in May (yes it is this month!!) Things had to be done in a hurry, and I am short of breath trying to keep up with arrangements :)

The other half got 3 extra days off and I would love to know if there are any honeymoon spots within driving distance of central NJ (3-4 hour drive is ok). We both love naturally beautiful places. Open to cabins in the woods (but where will we eat), or beaches (if its not too cold to go for a dip). Budget is < $1000 for 3 days/nights. Ideally the place will provide the opportunity for long scenic walks/treks, have good food, and help us rest our frayed nerves and bodies.

Any idea, mefites?

Mini Romantic/Relaxing Vacation Ideas for a Couple?

Mini Vacation Ideas for a Couple? We've looking for a nice long weekend escape from the city. Something relaxing and serene away from the usual. My boyfriend and I are trying to plan a little mini vacation for us, like a long weekend, maybe 3-4 days. We currently live in Louisville, KY, and have a couple different states in mind, Michigan or Maine. We want something with a little history culture involved and something suited well for couples.

We currently have 500$ put back we're estimating about 100$ in gas for the trip (round trip) to MA and 60$ (round trip) MI, we might stay at least 1-2 nights in a hotel so we can make it an enjoyable stay in a nice hotel.

Anyone have any ideas? I really want some place near a nice lake or coast, but he wants something w/ a little more than a view but he is open to being on the water with activities around, we do not want something really hectic, no big city, maybe a little town or a city nearby so we could drive up one day, something relaxing and serene.

We're open to absolutely any suggestions outside of those two states though nowhere any further than 15 hrs from Louisville.

Any suggestions would be great!

Help us put together a last minute get-away to Florida (or beyond?)... We (husband and pregnant wife in NYC) need a quick trip away from it all. Big time.

We are looking to do a three-four day weekend next week and would love a quick trip to somewhere relaxing and warm. Ideally we don't want to spend a ton of money either.

I was thinking Florida because the flights look pretty cheap. any suggestions in the Sunshine state? Ideally we'd like a quiet beach with a couple decent places to eat. Don't care for trendy or the rowdy scenes.

We'll be most appreciative of all suggestions!

Winter Long Weekend Getaway Ideas

MLK long weekend trip ideas leaving from San Francisco? My boyfriend and I have Jan. 16-20 off and we are having a difficult time deciding where to go. We are in the SF Bay Area and since we have four days off, we'd like to go somewhere that would be difficult to visit during a normal weekend. We are in our mid-20s and are looking to spend no more than $1000. Tahoe and Vegas are both out because we've been recently. Some ideas we have tossed about include a road trip along Hwy 1, a road trip to Disneyland, and Yosemite. Is Disneyland particularly crowded during MLK weekend? Would weather be an issue regarding Hwy 1 or Yosemite? What might be some nice places to check out this time of year? Thanks in advance!

How does a dog-owner non-driver enjoy a getaway in upstate NY?

How do I escape NYC for a few days and commune with nature upstate, in winter, with my dog? Oh, and I don't know how to drive. Metro-North allows dogs, so I am looking for a cozy dog-friendly bed & breakfast or resort along the Metro-North line, that is accessible by cab. I'm looking forward to hanging out in my room and being able to take long walks or hikes with my dog. No need for crazy attractions or sports. Ideally, this B&B or resort would be in both walking distance of awe-inspiring nature and a town where I could walk 10-15 minutes to get groceries or a bite to eat. Should be safe, as I'm a single female with a not very scary dog. Is this an impossible dream? Thanks for your help!

WeddingFilter: Recommend a B&B within 3-hour drive of NYC

Help us find the perfect B&B! Agent86 and I are tying the knot and we'd like to celebrate by spending the weekend at a nice B&B not too far from NYC. We'd drive out on Friday, probably come back Sunday or Monday, and it would be soon (so, fall or early winter). While we love Vermont, we'd prefer to spend less than five hours on the road, so Berkshires/Catskills seems like a more reasonable distance, but we'd go farther for the perfect place. If the weather is nice, we'd like to hike or do some cycling, if not, bookstores, antiques, markets, odd museums would be just fine. Big bonus points for good restaurants, or for a B&B that has an especially good breakfast. The place doesn't have to be luxurious, but should be clean, quiet. Picturesque is nice. I'd take a hot tub and/or a fireplace, but it's not essential.

Anyone been to a place they would recommend that would satisfy the above criteria? THANKS! (I've taken a look at the similar questions already posted, but none of the answers seem particularly enlightening, so I'm giving this one another shot. Oh, and the Poconos are out.)

romantic rustic getaway in washington?

Where should we camp/stay to feel isolated and romantic within 1-5 hour drive from Olympia, WA? I'm planning a weekend getaway for an anniversary around Thanksgiving, we'll be driving from Olympia, WA. The most important aspect is a beautiful natural surrounding, on the water would be fun but not necessary.

We're looking for rustic accommodations, ranging from: somewhere we have to hike a bit to and bring our own water and food on foot, an relatively uncrowded campground, somewhere with a rustic cabin for rent, something else...

An area with an interesting history would also be a cool option.

Girl to the North Country

Where can I go for an inexpensive, lake-enriched overnight escape from Minneapolis? I'm getting a bit stir-crazy in the Twin Cities, and I'd like to get away for a day or two. Since I have no friends with lake cabins (so sad!), I need to find another way to escape. Here's what I'm looking for:

- Ideally, within a few hours of the Cities.
- Someplace woodsy, near a swimmable lake.
- Quiet is what I'm going for, so no Wisconsin Dells-type family cabin resorts.
- Someplace where I can get a room or small, bare-bones cabin under $100/night. I really don't need anything fancy. Actually, a hostel would be great if there are any that are nice and not in the middle of a town.
- Reasonably close proximity to a nice town would be good, but not necessary.
- Close to some good day hikes.

The idea is that I'd drive up in the early morning one day, spend two days reading, walking and swimming, and come back late on the second day.

I will be most likely doing this trip by myself in two weeks. I'd rather go on a weekend, but I do have some vacation days so I could go in the middle of the week if that would ensure a more peaceful trip.

Looking for a Quebec Retreat with Urban Possibilities

Know of any great places to stay or see in Southern Quebec? Looking for a quiet idyll that's not too far (2hrs ish?) from Montreal and Quebec city for daytrips. SO and I are looking for a quiet place, preferably on a body of water, where we can relax and generally not have to deal with other people, but where we can drive into the cities without too much of a hassle.

Obviously, I understand a great place may not be equidistant from the cities, but something not too far afield from them.

I'm none too familiar with Quebec so any ideas? Suggestions? Warnings?

Great places for a honeymoon in Northern Minnesota?

Please help us find some unique destinations and lodging options in Northern Minnesota for our honeymoon. We are leaving the first week of May and have yet to get any firm plans for our honeymoon, so we need to decide soon! We just haven't been able to find any places that really grab our attention yet, though. It would be nice to have a place where we can relax, enjoy nature and see and try interesting activities. We won't be doing anything too involved, as we are really just trying to get away to be with each other, but we do like to cycle and hike.

We're interested in resorts, cabins and bed and breakfasts. We will probably skip around locations a few times throughout our week. Any personal experiences would be welcomed!

I don't think we'll be looking to "rough it" too much and there is such a thing as too unique, but please share what you know about vacationing in Northern Minnesota.

Your help and input would be appreciated! Thanks!

HELP need cool texas getaway for fishing

I want to plan a trip for my bf's birthday. I live in TEXAS and want to find a cool cabin that sleeps at least 6 people with access to fishing. I would prefer a secluded area where he and his standoutish tattooed buddies can be noisy and not have to deal with neighbors or uptight rednecks.. I have seen some cool places in Lake Buchanan and near Lake Travis, I just want to find the perfect one, with cool atmosphere, access to the water and affordable. I would like to spend less than 250 per night (other guests not included). I know he likes to fish in Rockport but the cottages all look kind of dingy...any ideas...I'll take whatever you got.

Lodging in Calistoga?

Have you been to Calistoga, CA? Where did you stay? What spas did you love? What restaurants are not to be missed? Planning a quick getaway from San Francisco this weekend. We'd love to find a place to stay (B&B, rental cottage, not-too-pricey hotel, whatever) that had charm and atmosphere and wasn't too expensive (under $200/night). Slightly decrepit is even fine. Bonus for kitchenette. Any recommendations for special spas and restaurants in the area would be appreciated, too.

No Sleep Till Pismo

[Romantic-Mini-Vacation-Filter]: We're off to the Central Californian Coast in a few weeks. What insanely romantic activities can you suggest?

Next month, I will be spending a romantic weekend in Pismo Beach, CA, with my sweetheart/confidant.* The room is booked for two nights, and the following arrangements are already made:

Dinner at Steamers on Friday night (where we shared our first real date over 6 years ago)

Hearst Castle on Saturday afternoon (tickets are purchased)

Checking out the elephant seals while we’re out in San Simeon

Eating at the Apple Farm Inn at some point (their potato pancakes = crazy delicious)

The requisite “long walk on the beach”

Aside from the aforementioned activities (and obviously the late-night hours, which are already spoken for [and during which we will be exceedingly busy]), I don't have much planned. Hence, a slew of questions:

What local wineries can you personally recommend? What sets them apart from the others?

Where might I be able to pick up picnic-type foods that would be good to eat either on the beach or elsewhere? For people familiar with LA, I am looking for something like the Village Gourmet on Hillhurst (adjacent to Alcove Café).

Where are the best, most scenic picnic spots in the area?

How does the Pismo Beach Monarch Butterfly Grove compare to Natural Bridges in Santa Cruz? Is it worth the visit?

What other super awesome and insanely romantic activities/places/things in the area might you know about?

I gladly welcome any and all anecdotes and suggestions that the hivemind might have about the Pismo area. Help me turn this into a trip to rival our first rendezvous in Pismo so many years ago!

* Fortunately, I will not be taking my car.

Need medical/health spa vacation suggestions

My husband needs some time away from the rat race and from us rats (his family). Any suggestions for a health or medical spa/resort where he could spend a week long vacation? My husband is a healthy 45. Nonetheless, he is still very interested in health issues and how he can maintain his current level of fitness. I'd like to surprise with a week long stay at some kind of medical spa or resort where he could get medical tests that would provide him a baseline of his current health and would also give him information (probably in the form of lectures) on health issues. I looked into the Pritkin Institute but it seems to focus mainly on losing weight. However, I did like that everything was included, that there was a lot of structure to the day, and that different aerobic activity was scheduled for each day. Yes, price is a factor but I wouldn't mind splurging if I thought it was something he'd really enjoy and would be valuable for his continued good health. I'd also like to keep it within the U.S. but again, if prices are much less elsewhere, that would be great. Thanks for any suggestions you can provide!

Getting away with my lady for the Yule.

My partner and I would like to go away over Christmas week. Is this a lost cause at this point? How about LGBT-friendly bed and breakfasts driving-distance from DC?
She's in law school; I recently started a new job. Our vacation time is limited, but I will have some over Christmas (22-29). We'd like to go away for at least part of that week, most likely locally, as flights will most likely be out of our price range.

We've both never stayed in bed & breakfasts, but know that it'd be nice to go to a gay-friendly site if we were going to be cute and cuddly in front of a fireplace.

We live just outside of DC and have heard a few recommendations and I've read those on MeFi, but we are interested in others' experiences with b&bs in the area, or any other ideas for a quick, fun getaway that won't be a dead end in a holiday week, either with unavailability or otherwise.

Where's a good place to spend the weekend halfway between North Carolina and New Jersey?

I live in Greensboro, NC and he lives in north Jersey, about a 9 hour drive apart. What are some good places to meet up for a weekend away? We're kind of cheap but willing to splurge if it's worth it. Budget is around $500 for two people for the weekend, including meals, lodging, and entertainment. We can do cabin, hotel, motel, B&B, etc. We like food, beer, shopping, camping, going out, and staying in (if you know what I mean).

Hotel, restaurant, city, and activity suggestions needed!
