I just saw a new film called "The Dead and the Living" (Barbara Albert), about a twenty-something girl uncovering the truth about her family's history in Nazi Germany. It reminded me of Costa-Gavras' "The Music Box". Does anyone have any other recommendations for films on a similar theme, specifically about Germany, and specifically about the process of uncovering of the past rather than (as in say "Downfall" or "Das Boot") the past itself?
Asking for a friend: I have a day and a half or so of sightseeing time in Frankfurt, Germany this Saturday and Sunday. What should I do and see while I'm there?
Found a wallet with a bunch of German identification (passport, drivers license, ID cards). How can I get this stuff back to him? Is there a better way than just mailing it to the address on his passport? If I do mail it should I use USPS? I'm in NYC.
Germany, seven days, mid October. Beginning in Berlin, ending in Frankfurt, but what in the middle? Also, are there any seasonal things to eat or drink at that time we should look out for? [more inside]
Is it possible to find detailed, English-language information on the initiation rituals, and other rites and customs, of 19th-century German dueling societies, or "burschenschafts"? I rented an apartment in Bonn on very short notice, and it turned out to be a loft. When he weather was cold it was ok, but once it got to 85 degrees it became unliveable. Of course there is no ac, so me and my pregnant wife went to a hotel till it cools off. Is there anything we can do regarding the rent? Do you think it's reasonable for someone to rent out a loft without mentioning that it is one? If I can't sleep in the apartment and he offers no solution but a fan, is this ok somehow? I was referred to this guy through the institute we are visiting, so maybe the secretaries can make him pay if I have a case.
I need an weather proof outdoor webcam. I have intermittent power and wifi. What are my options? [more inside]

Can anyone tell me what this is? I've had this for many years but now am clearing out my "collections" so my kids won't have to. Before I send this off I'd like to know what it is, and that would probably help interest someone in having it. Only marking is "Germany".
I'm a big fan of sausage - all kinds of sausage. Street vendor sausage, fancy sausage, pork sausage, chicken sausage, beef sausage. I am traveling to Munich, Salzburg, and Vienna for a few weeks in July. Where can I get the best (for whatever definition of "best" suits you) sausages, whether it be a quick lunch at a vendor between sights or a sit-down dinner?

I'm an American, planning to visit Germany for the first time in a few months; I'll be there for about a week, mostly in Berlin. I'm a musician (I do electronic pop -- I had a track on MeFiComp!), and I know my music has at least a handful of fans in Germany. So I'm thinking about trying to book myself a gig. I'm fairly confident that I can find a place to play, and transport my gear over there. What I haven't been able to figure out from my internet research is the legal side of things. Do I need to get a special visa if I'm going to do a paid performance? What about an unpaid performance? Will customs give me a hard time if I show up with music gear and no paperwork to explain what I plan to do with it? If so, how would I go about getting the necessary permit(s)?
I'll be spending a Saturday night in Stuttgart, Germany in February. Can you please help me decide where to stay? [more inside]

What is this German hairstyle? As seen recently in Berlin on a hip young man and not-hip young child, it seemed shorter on the top than on the sides but not a mullet (my memory is a little hazy), like it must have been a traditional quick n' easy home haircut possibly done with clippers but not something I've ever seen in the states. Bonus: how do you achieve this hairstyle?
