Hi, I'm going to be in the Munich area over the holidays and I want to find a place to hang out and drink. I've lived there already and I'm over the typical Bavarian biergarten/hall scene. Ideally, I'm looking for somewhere cozy and student oriented, good music playing (indie, downtempo, alternative hip-hop etc) and good, natural lighting for people watching. 100 super bonus points if their beer of choice is Augustiner!!! Thank you!!!!!

Our family will be travelling to Prague, Berlin and Munich later this month, with three days in Prague, four in Berlin and two in Munich. The kids are 6 and 4. Any suggestion for don't-miss Central Europe for families? We're flying in and out and will get between the cities by train; our travel and accommodation are booked.

I'm currently backpacking through Europe and was given an invitation to Oktoberfest for this Friday. I'm really excited about this, but can't seem to find any places to stay that aren't booked or very expensive. I'd like to spend Friday and Saturday night there, giving me the opportunity to see the rest of Munich. What are my options in the area to find a place to sleep? Are there non-hostel options or perhaps one that isn't well known?

My parents decided they want to visit Munich during the Oktoberfest. Every hotel or B&B near the town center seems to be booked or prohibitively expensive during this time. Can anybody recommend lodgings or other areas in which to look for lodgings that are not directly in the town center? [more inside]
