How should my Georgetown-bound friend find a place to live?

Advice for a Georgetown U. grad student looking for housing in DC! I'm asking for a friend who is looking for an apartment--single or with roommates, but he strongly prefers his own room and is looking to spend no more than $850. Convenience to school is very important, which seems to mean he can't rely on metro (no Georgetown stop) - he's not planning to drive to school, since parking is apparently atrocious. The problem is that he can only actually be in town to look for three days. He's got a few Craigslist appointments set up, but should he be looking into a realtor to show apartments as well? We're hearing mixed answers over whether one is helpful/neccessary, especially if he's looking to live with housemates. If helpful, does anyone know a good one to contact?

Neighborhoods he's considering: either Georgetown/Burleith/Glover Park, Foxhall or Rosslyn/North Arlington. Also Dupont Circle or Foggy Bottom if he could find an affordable place there. Anywhere else with decent bus rides to Georgetown he should be considering?

Coffee + Wifi + Georgetown=?

Where are good coffee places with wifi in the Georgetown area? I need a place to work, since my room is too distracting. In Minnesota there were tons of coffee places near campus with wifi, but I cannot find the same here in D.C. I would prefer it if there wasn't loud music blaring, but I may be able to ignore it anyway.

Where to live in DC?

I'm moving do Washington DC sometime in the near future. Where should I live? VA, DC, or MD? I don't have a position yet even though one is on the table and more are to come. The position I have on the table is for one of the large government buildings in Crystal City but I might end up taking a job in another area.

I'm 23, single, and I'm moving from Southern Maryland. All I need is a one bedroom place. I'm looking to live as close to the bars/night life/fun as possible in order to make up for the time I've been down here with nothing to do. Being able to walk to a few hot spots and take the Metro to work would be absolutely fantastic.

What areas are my best bets for this? Some have suggested Arlington, Alexandria, or Crystal City? Should I steer clear of the DC area and shoot for VA? Maybe Georgetown? What do you all recommend?

Commuting to Georgetown from NoVa

Help advise me on my work commute to Georgetown U from McLean,Va (I'm not close to metro). I just got a new exciting job (my first library job!omg!) at Georgetown University. I am trying to figure out a way to commute there from my home in Mclean, VA, where we have no metro station nearby. I could just get a month parking pass and drive, but the Key Bridge is closed in the mornings, and the Canal Rd mess is not appealing. My work schedule will be different day to day, week to week, so I can't really rideshare. I will sometimes have to be there early in the morning and on other days to past 11pm. I have looked into parking in Rosslyn and taking the free shuttle, but they are all closed to new monthly parkers (in my budget range, or they close too early). The same applies to the lot at the W. Falls Church metro lot. If you have some ideas I haven't thought of or gave up on too early, let me know! HALP...

What can I expect at the Georgetown (DC) DMV?

When is the best time of day/day of the week to visit the Georgetown (DC) DMV to convert my CA license to a DC license? I need to convert my CA driver's license to a DC license. I don't own a car so no need for vehicle registration, etc. I live in the NW so Georgetown's DMV seems to be the most convenient for me. (Right?)

Have you been there? Was it crazy and crowded? Does it take a long time? Any time-of-day, day-of-week recommendations? I'm working M-F 830-5 and need to minimize how much time I take off.

They're open M-F from 8:15-4, naturally.

Don't want to be living in a box in Georgetown

Georgetown Filter: Pal is leaving to start a graduate degree at Georgetown University...looking for a place to live but is unfamiliar with the area... She has only visited their twice before and is heading out this weekend to find a place to live. She was having trouble identifying options over the Internet and would like a little more information on the best places to live. So, we looking for recommendations or resources. She would be happy sharing or living on her own (studio), needs public transportation to access the university, and can spend (about) $900/month. Any DC natives out there?
