Developing excellent academic general knowledge.

Developing excellent academic general knowledge. Hey guys. I have reasonable general knowledge, I use to compete nationally. If human knowledge were a map I would know all the counties/states and big cities. I know the top three guys in linguistics, the basic ideas behind all the major world religions, I've read the canon...

Has anyone reached the next level? Gotten both broad and deep knowledge. How was the transition?

Is a bachelor of general studies useful

I am a nontraditional student who has gone back to school and completed an AA degree.I work all kinds of messed up hours and I have found that pursuing a bachelors of General studies (over the internet) at the university of Missouri will work for me.I can have the tests sent to a local library or school for finals etc. I was wondering what the Meta filter community thinks about a bgs. Has it helped or hindered them.

How can I donate more money to Barack Obama?

How can I donate more money to Barack Obama? I would be willing to donate more of my money to Barack Obama's cause, but I have already donated the maximum legal amount of $2300 for the primary.

I have read that you can donate not just $2300 for the primary, but also another $2300 for the general. In fact, this is encouraged on every politician's website that I've seen. However, it's not clear to me whether the candidate can use general election donations for the primary; if not, I'd rather hold on until it's clear that he's actually going to run in the general.

Another alternative: You can give additional money to... uh... PACs and stuff?

So, my questions are: If I donate now towards the general election, would he be able to use those funds in the primary?

If not, what PAC (or whatever) would most help Obama win the primary?

Submitting anonymously because I'm not interested in having people know that I'm giving thousands of dollars away.

What's the standard for g. i.e. general intelligence?

Do intelligence tests measure g (i.e. general intelligence)? How do we know? With most testing standards, there's an arbitrary physical constant in the world for us to measure and quantify: the meter is defined in terms of a wavelength of light in a vacuum, for instance. However, intelligence tests seem more like the kilogram's platinum-iridium cylinder, which is a sort of moving target. What's the standard for g? It seems like "psychometrics" always assume that analytical abilities as measured in math, reading comprehension, and various logic 'games' are highly correlated with g, but I'd like to know what sort of evidence there is for this claim. The field has a vast internal body of research on this to determine whether a particularly testing question tracks with the overall testing apparatus (they call it g-loading.) But where do they get their initial g assessments from?

I'm just trying to get my head around why this isn't a vicious circle.

Best neighborhoods for general surgery resident at Stanford?

The Residency Match takes us from the East coast to Stanford, and I was wondering if I could get some suggestions with regards to accomodation (1br or equivalent) taking into account rates vs neighborhoods most accessible to the core hospitals (University Hospital, VA Palo Alto, Kaiser Foundation, and Santa Clara Valley Medical Center) in terms of traffic conditions. Thanks.

General surgery residency ranking

Looking for an advice on ranking general surgery residencies, specifically University of Pittsburgh vs University of Michigan vs Yale; and UMDNJ New Brunswick vs University of Connecticut vs Brown. Can you suggest any pros or cons to help me rank them? I am aware of FREIDA, USNews hospital rankings, NIH funding data, and pass rates... any other information that I may consider or any inside information/ personal experience on these programs? Thank you.
