Earlier today I got a message from an address and name I didn't recognize with no text and "Hiii@" as the subject. 'This is clearly spam' I thought, and marked it as such. About 15 minutes later I get a gchat invitation from the same person. I shrugged, and decided to answer it. The conversation seemed real enough, and there was no enticement to do anything like click on a link or buy some scammy product. I'm racking my brain and still can't place the name. Is this a spam bot, or a real person?

How does the SMS feature in Gmail work? I know there's some kind of base of phone numbers used for it, but I assume those numbers send out thousands of texts per day; how does a reply end up at my account, instead of someone else's? If someone replies to one of my SMS messages sent from Gmail in a month, will the reply still be connected to me?

I use iGoogle as my homepage and use Google talk from there as well but in the last few months I noticed with a few contacts, I can only chat with them in gmail. When they send me a message on iGoogle it flashes orange but the chat box is blank, I have to then go into chat history and see what they said and reply in gmail. I tried searching for answers, even reset my whole iGoogle yet this still persists. If anyone can provide any assistance it would be much appreciated.

Am I overlooking any options for archiving/exporting Gmail chat statuses? Alternatively, are there any notetaking apps that are REALLY REALLY REALLY well-integrated with Gmail?

I just started using Pidgin, and I like it, but I don't like the default sound when I receive a message. Previously, I IMed using gchat within my gmail account and really liked the little "dink" sounds that it made. Is there a way to import those sounds into Pidgin? Google is less than helpful on this front.

Law school student org drama. I'm the Pres of a very active student org. My VP is a good egg, but she's been acting "off" as late. I was talking with my Treas to figure out how to confront her about how she's been behaving. Plot twist: I then caught my VP snooping through my Gchat with the Treasurer. She didn't like what she saw. What's the best course of action, to help out all of us? Long explanation follows.

In regular Gmail, my friends' chat statuses show up as red, green, or greyed out. I know that if they're greyed out it might be because they're not signed in or because they've gone invisible. In Gchat on the iPhone/iPod Touch, there's a little more variation in how their statuses appear (not on the list at all, greyed out without profile pic, greyed out with profile pic) and I'm looking to understand whether those variations tell me if they're there but "invisible" vs "signed out."

In my Gmail sidebar contacts list, a contact shows up with a greyed-out "Invited" next to their name. Does this mean that I have invited them to chat, or that they have invited me to chat? I still have the "invite to chat" option available, and I can't remember if I did send a chat invite. Thanks in advance, hivemind.
