So Belize has some pretty backwards laws regarding gays and who can and cannot enter their country. Is this something that we should *actually* to worry about? Or, what are some alternate travel destinations we should be considering? [more inside]

It looks like I'm going to be stopping in Zanzibar for vacation. In August they passed a law punishing sodomy the same as murder. Are there ways to go to a country and still make sure that money only goes to places where it can help?
Basically, since it looks like this is (rather unfortunately) inevitable, what's the best way to get through this with a somewhat clear concious?

Chicago Hotels? We're looking for a modest, comfortable place downtown or on the near-northside to park ourselves between seeing the sights over a weekend. A gay-friendly B&B would be cool, too. Any recommendations? Bonus points for hipfunkycoolness.
