A gas stove in our family room uses a thermocouple, millivolt valve and manual switch to control the gas to the stove. I need to solder a new switch to the leads that go to the old switch (the total wire length is about 4 feet). I know this question is a little bit arbitrary, but any response will be helpful. I live in a 2 family spilt house/condo. I noticed that my electrical box is powering the OTHER unit's gas boiler. I assume that the electrical just feeds the thermostat and maybe triggering the pilot to boil the water?? (My knowledge here is limited.) Without knowing too much about their heating use, I am trying to determine the urgency of getting an electrician to switch it from my electricity to the other unit's electrical box.

The sparkers on my gas cook-top keep 'sparking' even when everything is turned off. There is no gas flowing to the range but the little spark plugs keeping sparking by themselves. We have an oldish (~90 years or so) house with a gas furnace and forced air heating. We're thinking of replacing the furnace and adding an AC compressor for cooling. We'd also like to hear stories and or warnings about setting this up in an old house. [more inside]

YANMD. My mother and I share a strange gastro-intenstinal issue for which I need to find an answer. If we don't eat regularly, I get what can best be described as gas. It doesn't feel like heartburn but more of a general pain in the tummy with the need to burp. It is very uncomfortable to the point that I can't do much of anything but sit and ride it out. I have always been told by my West Indian mother that there is nothing that can be done except eat small meals regularly or drink tea. I find it hard to believe that this is the means by which I have to treat this problem. [more inside]

We have an old barn in our backyard that we are currently restoring. It will be fully insulated when finished (though we're recycling old windows that are probably 100 years old, which are single pane, so it won't be optimally efficient.) I am trying to decide if we should heat it with gas or electricity. Because the barn has never been heated before, and we're changing it anyway, I'm having a hard time estimating costs. (See extended explanation for details.) [more inside]
I drive a 2003 Manual-Transmission Honda Element, and I've gotten into the habit of shifting into neutral at every opportunity, usually when I'm at the top of a large hill. I do this under the impression that this is saving me gas, but I'm curious about the specifics. [more inside]
I have an art studo that is going to get extremely cold during this winter but I need to keep using it. It's in an old factory, concrete walls and floor, relatively high ceilings (great in summer, not so in winter). My wife and mother-in-law both suffer from the same condition. If they don't eat frequently, they tell me they get 'gas'. Not gas out the ass, but gas in their stomachs / chests that can get quite painful. It is quite debilitating for my wife. When they get this 'gas' if they eat, eventually it will go away on its own or with a bunch of burps. I am not sure if they are calling it 'gas' and should be calling it heartburn, or something else. All I know is my Google-Fu cannot find anything about NOT eating and getting gas or some other painful belly / chest thingy. Anyone else have experience with this kind of ailment. Is there a name for getting 'gas' when you don't eat? Help me solve this medical mystery.
