How can I find out who wrongly gardened my garden?

Water drainage for indoor potted plants?

Newbie gardening question: I'm very new to gardening and have some questions about drainage. I live in an apartment, so can only grow things in containers. For plants on the balcony, I'm using terra cotta pots with a hole in the bottom and setting them on the matching saucers. But what about indoor plants? Do all pots need drainage holes? [more inside]

What is this tool? Seedling waterer? Bonsai?

I need to kill a tree.

I have a ficus tree in our yard (planted by the previous homeowner) that is growing too fast and the roots have breached the main sewer line on our property. The trunk of the tree is maybe eight inches in diameter, and completely removing the tree is dicey due to terrain and sewer line considerations. I live in Hawaii. Any suggestions?

No, not the band.

Vegetable gardener living in SoCal (zone 9) wants to try growing black-eyed peas (cowpeas) in big raised beds in the backyard this summer. Problem: being Yankee-born and raised, I have never grown, eaten, nor even seen black-eyed peas before, on the vine or off. Suggestions for backyard-worthy varieties, gardening tips, companion planting possibilities, and authentic recipes desired.

Help me save my rosemary bush!

Help me save my rosemary bush! This bush is in my back yard. I live in Phoenix, AZ. The bush has been there for 13 years, but in the past 6 months 90% of it died. I suspect it was either due to a freeze or some windborne weed killer. Up to now I have not maintained it at all (in terms of active watering, etc.) other than trimming it back occasionally. How can I save it?

Is there an alternative to harmful herbicides that will kill weeds but not harm backyard wildlife?

Is there an alternative to harmful herbicides that will kill weeds but not harm backyard wildlife? My yard is full of weeds. It looks awful. We're having an awful time getting rid of the weeds because there are just too many to manually pull each out. So my husband wants to use a "Weed and Feed" or some similar weed killer on our entire lawn to kill the weeds, then start seeding grass. [more inside]

Large decorative plants that will survive in a container on a Seattle deck

What plants are suitable for putting on our deck in Seattle? There's no yard/soil, so they must live in containers. The deck is quite large so I was thinking about large decorative plants like small trees or some form of bamboo. Climate-wise, we have the typical PNW weather of moist winters that only fall below freezing a few days out of the year. Also, we are completely ignorant of gardening and would rather have something that can survive with a minimum of attention.
