I'm growing an organic garden with a friend this year. This morning, we harvested lots of salad greens and I took a paper bag of them home. They have not been washed, and they are in the paper bag sitting inside my fridge in the crisper drawer. How many days do you think it is likely they will last? Is there anything I can do to keep it fresh longer?

I am thinking about cultivating a small vegetable patch area near a river. What would be the best method to thoroughly test the water for nasty contaminants like arsenic, lead or other spooky chemicals I can't even pronounce? [more inside]

I'm looking for a magazine from the early 70's that was geared towards natural hippy lifestyles, homesteading, composting, crafts, self-sustainability and organic gardening. Does this ring a bell with anyone and can you help me find some back copies?

Can we safely grow some vegetables or herbs in soil that that apparently has had copious amounts of pesticide, herbicide, and fungicide applied to it two years ago and probably also for several years prior? [more inside]
