I've never had a garden before. I recently bought a house in Canberra with a small established garden, mainly native Australian plants. It has a drip watering system. There isn't a lot of room, but there are a few things I have always wanted to grow, and I've got no idea whether it is possible to fit them in somehow, or where I should put them. I know I can't do anything until just before spring, but I want to start planning now. [more inside]

We've recently moved into a new place with an empty lot. The previous tenants used parts of the lot to garden, but it's now overgrown with a mix of food plants and weeds. Over the past month, we've had this plant popping up. It looks sort of spinachy, but we don't want to start mixing it into salads unless it's actually edible. Can anyone identify it? Closer look here.

I planted climbing peas about 2 weeks ago and they are turning yellow, drying out despite a fair amount of water, and losing their nice green color. I think I overwatered them to begin with, but I let them go without water for a few days, and put them outside so they could get more light. Now they look like this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/60463163@N06/?saved=1 Please help! What should I do? I live in San Jose, zone 8B if that matters. I planted a young pear tree about 2 years ago, and neglected to prune it over-winter when you're supposed to. It now looks a bit like a backwards "r" (photographic evidence). Should I prune it now? Or should I wait till winter? And how should I go about pruning it? It seems to have one long central (very bent) trunk and not many side branches at the moment.
