Looking for suggestions for board games for our 10 year old to play with her friends. Preferably something easy to pick up but with a fair degree of depth, and she's also interested in something with a bit of a fantasy roleplaying vibe - I'm thinking something like GW's Heroquest from back in the day might work, but nothing more complicated than that. Any suggestions?
So my son is now about to be six. I feel like the amazing bond we had/have through shared interests and just sheer delight in each other's company needs (for the first time) thinking about and curating and not just taking for granted. Anyone have any tips on this next step? [more inside]
I'm visiting my sister and her family for the weekend. My (almost) seven year old nephew is obsessed with Star Wars and I have been informed that my visit will be dominated by same. I'm totally fine with this. In fact, I'd like to bring him even MORE Star Wars! [more inside]

My 7-year-old would like to play some sort of online game with his friend in the evenings. They own different platforms of game systems, so I don't think they can play a game through one of those. Is there a free or inexpensive app or game they can play together? Specific requirements within. [more inside]
I would like your best suggestions for children's clapping/singing games, with a birthday theme. Think K-1st grade, circle-type games. Thanks!
The post about Smear the Queer made me think about a dodgeball-like game I played growing up called Smurfball. I don't know any other school that played it, and I can't find any information online, so I thought I'd see if a description of it sends anyone else down memory lane. [more inside]
What's a good video game controller for a toddler? Absolutely required: A reliable way of connecting it to a Windows 7 or 8 laptop. I don't mind using JoyToKey or 3rd-party drivers if necessary. Preferred: Wireless, so it can't be used to pull the laptop off the desk; Durable and/or cheap, in case it gets thrown or dropped; Simple, few inputs. [more inside]
My awesome 12 year old nerd son has (finally) expressed serious interest in creating his own games, learning coding and whatnot. This is way out of my league, and googling just confuses me because I don't know what we need. Suggestion for sites, learning resources, etc? [more inside]
Flying in the face of scientists' warnings, my wife and I allow our child to play with the iPad from time to time. She's outgrown most of the apps she previously played with -- does anyone have any recommendations for good puzzle, games, and educational apps that would be age-appropriate and interesting for a twenty-month-old? Thanks.
My son (11) has expressed an interest in playing Dungeons and Dragons. I would like to help him but I know nothing about the game and Amazon reviews of the basic starter set confuse things even further. What exactly does he need in order to start playing? [more inside]
A twelve year old I'm related to keeps sending me invites to play horrid money wall Facebook games. Said kid is going through a hard time and I like the idea of playing with her as a small, regular form of reaching out. However...Zynga Poker ain"t gonna happen. What are some good games to play on a long train ride with a small child (age 4)? The ipad makes him motion-sick. He gets frustrated with drawing or dot-to-dot because of the bumpy movement of the train. We have audiobooks but they won't cover the whole ride.
I'm gifting my laptop to my far-away sister, and want to pre-load it with some fun, free, friendly games she can use to entertain her live-in grandkids (ages 4 and 2). Any suggestions? [more inside]
What are the available OSX native educational kids games that will run on an iMac G4 (I have the 400mhz one)? I bought the Jumpstart games off ebay, but those seem to be ClassicOS games that they just slapped a wrapper on, and as such they don't work very well. 640x480 in a tiny window not-well, for instance. After spending more time on them than he should, my 7 year old has decided that he wants to make his own flash game. I have done the obligatory googling without finding anything obviously suitable. Are there any applications out there (free or $) designed or suited for kids? I don't imagine that he will be making anything from scratch, but assume there are some drag and drop applications out there with which he can have fun. Thanks.

My niece is turning 9 this week and will be visiting Manhattan with her parents over Thanksgiving. I'd like to get her a gift like a coloring book, bingo game, or map where she can track where she's been while she's there. Something that requires a little research on her part beforehand would be great; YA historical stuff or mysteries is sort of what I'm looking for. (She's reading at a 5th grade level). I'd like to steer clear of electronic stuff if possible; paper and crayons/pencils type of thing.
Looking for classroom game resources (Especially for kids ages 5-7) [more inside]
I work with kids in an afterschool program ranging in age from 3-10. I'm contemplating having themes for a week where we do a lot of creative activities revolving around the theme. So, one week the theme might be "jungle animals" and we could make animal masks from paper plates, draw animals, make jungle animal puppets and do a puppet show, play a game outside involving jungle animals, read a picture book about jungle animals, etc. [more inside]
My three-year-old daughter loves to play with dad's iPhone, but he's starting to miss it. Is there some kind of hand-held device that has games and such that might entertain her? I hate to sound like such a noob/dork, but I don't know what's out there, so I don't know how to search. What would you get a three-year-old if you were trying to duplicate the experience of an iPhone without buying her an iPhone?
What are some good board and card games for 3-4 year olds that a 6 year old might enjoy too? I'm think of Zingo and the like.

My 7 year old son has developed a passion for money. He enjoys collecting unusual coins and bills, spotting bargains at the grocery, playing 'store' and (yikes) making bets for cash. His favorite character is Mr. Crabs. Finance is not my specialty *snort* so any suggestions for age appropriate sites/activities that revolve around the wise use of filthy lucre will be appreciated.
