I'm looking for some decent "vs" puzzle games that I and my 3 young boys (10 and under) can play against each other on my mac (a fun and silly chess game would be a plus, too). We have 2 macs in the house, so any online options would be welcome too! TIA.

My 7 year old son has developed a passion for money. He enjoys collecting unusual coins and bills, spotting bargains at the grocery, playing 'store' and (yikes) making bets for cash. His favorite character is Mr. Crabs. Finance is not my specialty *snort* so any suggestions for age appropriate sites/activities that revolve around the wise use of filthy lucre will be appreciated. We're part of a child care co-op arrangement for a month, which means I'll have six 6-year olds to myself for three (non consecutive), six-hour days. I could use some suggestions for creative activities -- running around (we've got lots of outdoor room, wooded and open), arts and crafts, whatever. Ideas that require buying supplies are fine.

Awesome but slightly rambunctious 8th grade class going on a school trip to the country. Rain is possible. Possibility of ultra-rare recreational computer access is likely to be a highly compelling reward for good behavior. The kids speak German. With all of these givens, what non-crack-like game should I install on the beater iBook G3 12" running 10.4 that I'm sending the teacher off with? [more inside]

I'm looking for flash "games" suitable in content for a preschool child (ie: no gore, violence, etc.) where you click the mouse or press a key and something happens, but where you're basically just creating random action. For example, clicking the mouse on the screen might cause a "firework" to deploy or a bubble to be created or burst. Any suggestions?

You know the playground trick whereby four of you can "levitate" a fifth person using just your fingertips (you first hold your hands over his head and count to 20)? How does that work, then?

Pat-a-cake; The Itsy Bitsy Spider ... and ....? Can you suggest some traditional rhymes/games with motions like the two above that I can play with my 16 month old son. Preferably things that can be done lying down (so Head Shoulder Knees and Toes won't work well).

I'm looking for suggestions for either board or card games that fill two requirements: the participants must be able to finish the game or a round in under 20 minutes and the rules must be simple enough to be explained in under five minutes. Ideally these games would be simple enough for a child in second grade or up to understand and enjoy playing. I'm aware of some of the old standbyes such as Uno, Phase 10, Candy Land, Jenga, and Hally Gally. More suggestions along those lines?

My 6-year-old daughter has recently developed an interest in playing chess. We have a blast playing together, but I think it would be fun for her to play against the computer (or other novices) during her "screen time." What are some good computer chess games/websites that would develop the game of a young novice? Free is best, but I'd be happy to buy something (Win XP) if needed. Pretty graphics would be a bonus, but aren't necessary.

My niece is trying to remember the rules of a card game that involves inflicting various acts of sadism on whoever ends up holding a black Jack. Said sadistic acts are determined by the suits of cards somewhere in play - for example, a Diamond results in a punch, a Club results in a pinch, and so on. The only other thing that she can remember is that one of the black Jacks is removed from the deck before play commences, leaving just one. Any ideas what the game is called, and how it's played?

Games for a 400MHz PII Rage Pro Win2k boxen? Kids I know would like some video games (especially LANable ones), but their computers aren't so hot. Enemy Territory, BZFlag, and the like have hefty video requirements. Various "free game" resources aren't proving helpful; they're all about the latest&greatest. What's available for old-school systems?
