Can you identify this nuclear war themed computer game?

I remember playing a great computer strategy game on my ZX Spectrum back in the 1990s (although perhaps the game is older) which simulated being in command of the US Strategic Defense Initiative. Most of the gameplay involved doling out funding dollars to different SDI research & development projects (X-Ray satellites, high energy lasers, ABM bases etc.). You could choose whether the US president and Soviet Premier were hawkish, dovish or a mix (but they could not be both doves). There were DEFCON warning levels. All games culminated in a nuclear war with a Soviet first strike launch. There was a map with the missile swarms tracked. You had to scramble to set the red 3-letter code to activate the SDI system in time. You could take charge of individual SDI platforms yourself or just let them run automatically. You could also OK the wholesale launch of US nukes in retaliation. What is this game? (games that this is definitely not inside) [more inside]

What was that old computer game where you're the President of the USA in the not-too-distant future?

Please help me remember an old computer game. It was a lighthearted kids' adventure/puzzle game. It takes place in the far future and you are the president or possibly the president's advisor. (It wasn't Shadow President). Puzzles involved dolphins, martians and robots. [more inside]

BEEEEEEEEEEES

I am looking for an old BASIC(?)-programmed DOS game. It is about defending North America from an invasion of killer bees. I believe the file was SWARM.EXE, and I'm pretty sure it was freeware. [more inside]

Looking for an old text-based RPG magical game.

I'm trying to find an old computer game that we used to play in school (probably around late 80s). It was a text based RPG with puzzles and magical items. [more inside]

Balance in MMO Economies?

Game Design: In an MMO, how do you build an economy that will 'balance' itself? Obviously, having solid inputs and outputs are one thing, and balancing those inputs with the demand for the item, but what other things need to be taken into account? [more inside]

Fun simple competitive good-looking multiplayer computer games?

What are the most addictive, not-too-hard-to-master, good-for-casual-gamers multiplayer computer games out there? Cool graphics appreciated. Strategy games preferred, but not required...

A PC Game Involing Gangs from the Late Eighties

I have very fond memories of playing a graphically-simple game in the late eighties or possibly early nineties. It was set in the future, in a plague-ridde, post-apocalyptic America. You were a gang leader, and your job was to assemble gang members, vehicles and guns and essentially deliver America from ruin. [more inside]

Brain-Break Computer Game

I'm looking for advice on a computer game that would allow me to put work aside, and give my brain a break.

A few things to note:

-I freelance illustrate. So the only boss I have to worry about is me
-I exclusively use a laptop that can only run 3d games at low settings (but it works!)
-FPS games give me motion sickness
-Sim games are fun, but sometimes the micromanagent and replay value is low.
-RTS games are great, but replay value is a must if I'm going to sink 50 dollars into it.
-MMPORGs: I love them, but i don't love the tedious time you have to sink into them to level up.
-Are gameboys a way to go instead?

Any suggestions?
