I booked a secret weekend away in Berlin for Mrs SpacemanRed's 40th birthday, except it now turns out she was there for 5 days in 2005, so it's not going to be the novelty I was hoping for. Please hope me. [more inside]
I’ve been taking photos of the same(-ish) spot for the past year in the hopes of stringing them all together to illustrate the changing seasons. Now that I have the photos, I need some tech help to pull the next step off. Snowflakes (not many, I hope) inside. [more inside]
I have a collection of 50-100 images. I want to display them on a very basic webpage in which two random images are displayed side by side each time the page is loaded. Is there any free (or paid, I guess) website builder that could do this very easily? Or, do you have a suggestion for some very basic way for me to build it myself? I have little to no programming skill but used to muddle through some html back in the day.
Do you know of a WordPress Instagram plugin that will allow me to show together in a single gallery all images that are tagged as a certain location OR that use a certain hashtag? To restate: it's all the images that are marked with a certain location, and all the images that are marked with a certain hashtag. I'm trying to avoid installing and testing dozens of plugins to see if any do this.
Made it to 1st stage of interviews at a mid-size contemporary art gallery. Need resources for my screening test. Please help me land this exciting job opportunity! [more inside]
Artists with open studios or small gallery owners: how do you want me to behave? I'm completely ignorant about visual art and often unmoved by it, but interested in visiting the various tiny galleries and open studio events around my city. From experience, I'll often be the only person -- or one of very few people -- there at the time, aside from the artist. Should I duck wordlessly in and out, ask you to talk about the work, something else? [more inside]
I'd really like to have more art in my house, and I love the idea of having original pieces. But I know almost nothing about art, so I don't know the best ways to go about finding and buying it. [more inside]
ArtFilter: I'm trying to figure out who created a number of surrealist images. I remember inversion/fusion of right-side-up and up-side-down things as the main theme, with a lot of castle-islands, boats sailing through the sky, etc. Along the lines of this image. [more inside]
I want to build a site similar to Paul Stamatiou's photo site. Images are big, design and interface is state-of-the-art, video is integrated nicely. What other similar sites do you know of? [more inside]

I want to put up a wordpress site for a virtual gallery of some of my photos. I'd really like to have something that looks clean & elegant enough to send out to potential clients/magazines. ie. Not so much something that signals, "family summer trip... woohoo" but really something that signals "artist-doing-arty-things." (What I am putting on this wordpress site will be a specific photo story though, and not all of my work-- ie. this site will have a really narrow focus). I've looked at woothemes, and really didn't see anything that had the look I am striving for. (It's that classic problem: I don't know what I want, but I'll know it when I see it.") Can the hive mind point me to other places (like WooThemes) where I can find and buy beautiful wordpress themes (tight budget alert!) and/or specific themes-for-sale that would be great for an aspiring photographer with a story to tell. Thanks!
I'm trying to help my cousin migrate his WIX photography site to an actual host. His backup drive with all of his photos died and the only place these images exist is on wix, who doesn't support downloading the content. I tried httrack and a couple online website rippers but none are able to pull the images. Is there any way I can avoid doing this the amazingly hard way?

I live in a major city with a ton of interesting gallery and museum exhibitions. I've too often found that I missed a show. Is there an iphone app that will easily keep track only of shows I'm interested in seeing, listing their opening and closing dates? Or has anyone found a successful way to keep track? Bonus: a reminder letting me know when they're closing soon. Also interested in evernote and google calendar solutions.
What is the best service for a group of people to share photos of the same event? [more inside]
I'm searching for art galleries in major cities (such as London, New York, Seattle, Dubai, etc) that are friendly to emerging artists, and are likely to take take 1 - 2 pieces in a group show. My goal here (similar to my last ask mefi question) is to get some exhibition credits in major cities, as crass as that sounds. Are there any suggestions you have, or specific search keywords I should be looking for?
I have a large number of medium-sized image files (let's say 2000) that I want to host online in a publicly browsable gallery with tags. Is there any kind of service or software that will make this easy for me? [more inside]
My goal is to get up to speed -- and then keep up with -- the art, design, architecture, and fashion scenes in Stockholm. I moved here recently and am curious if people can recommend galleries, museums, and anything else I should follow for interesting shows, interesting new artists, speaker tours, that sort of thing, ideally relating to the above, but I'm also open to anything else :) In a bigger city like London or NY there are obvious tons of galleries and museums that constantly have great exhibits...I don't expect Stockholm to be at that level, but people always talk about "Swedish design" and I am curious to get into it, as well as art and architecture. I realize that leaves it open but mainly I care about galleries, museums, and other spaces where innovative creation is being displayed, and less about the medium (though architecture, photography, and haute cotoure type fashion are three specific interests...though you wouldn't know it from how I dress :). I think this question is a bit rambly but hopefully the "spirit" of it was conveyed. Thanks in advance!

Nightlife recommendations in Quito outside of Mariscal Sucre. Travelling with my sister and our significant others in Ecuador and Galapagos for a few weeks in June. We will have a few nights here and there in Quito. I am looking for Nightlife and restaurant recommendations outside of Mariscal Sucre where we are staying. Music, galleries, etc. Thanks Me-fites.
I need a photography portfolio website for myself. I already maintain smugmug and flickr sites, but these are mainly used for works in progress and special projects. Not final collections. I want something that is simple, elegant and easy to manage, supporting three or four galleries with limited numbers of images and an about page. I've looked into Joomla with Joom:Gallery and it all seems too much, overkill and means I'd have to become a web gal again. Should I bite the bullet and learn Joomla or another CMS, hire a designer or is there a service that "keeps it simple" and without their own branding?

I am an amateur photographer with 1) a subscription-based online portfolio, 2) a desire to take more control over my site, 3) a sense of reckless abandon, and 4) virtually no experience with, or understanding of, the inner workings of the modern internet. I'd like a really simple site on my domain to hold galleries of my images and a blog. Can I get there from here? How? [more inside]
I've been asked by a family member to set up a small business site to be used for displaying images of products for sale. As I don't really want to get too involved, I need a CMS that's easy to use and maintain and figured WordPress to be a good fit. However, I'm having trouble finding just the right image gallery behaviour. [more inside]
Last winter, our small-town nonprofit arts organization decided it wanted to do something during our long dark winters to bring people together to be creative in its gallery space. Fun WordPress question! I'm designing a template and on the image attachment page, I want to be able to display (1) the last image attached to the previous post in the category "gallery," and (2) the first image attached to the next post in the category "gallery," if there are any. [more inside]
I've recently visited the Galleria Doria Pamphilj in Rome, and there I discovered gallery walls ordered in a very crowded grid, "a grid that is typical to the 18th century", according to the audio guided tour. I tried looking for further material on such wall arrangements, the history of curation, perhaps, or the concept of Grid in the practice of gallery curation. I've found none. Can you recommend any leads (books/links) for learning such a subject?
