I want to read about Augmented Reality. Tech developments IRL; techno-utopian / transhuman dreams, and hard-fought aspirations; and any sci-fictional dystopian nightmares you know of. [more inside]
After last month's manifestations in Brazil, we're talking a lot about the future of democracy. Direct digital representation, continuous public opinion feedback loops, Big Brother-like continuous surveillance of elected officials, this sort of thing. So I want to know, is this actually being tried anywhere? What is the world's most technologically advanced democracy? It doesn't matter if it's a nation-state, a city or just an institution — How is it working? How did you guys pull it off? Are there any books on this sort of thing?
Looking for sci-fi writers' imaginings of gastronomy in the future, innovative cooking techniques, haute cuisine of the year 3000, that sort of thing. Descriptions can be mundane, fantastical or technojargony. Can include imaginary or extraterrestrial ingredients. Any medium is fine (film, TV, book, etc.). Adjacent genres such as fantasy would work too.
Where can I find summaries of historical developments, technological breakthroughs, political and social changes etc. in a similar style as the Afterword in Charles Stross's anthology Toast (free download here)? I am interested in stuff that has happened in the last 30 or 40 years.
Help me find some informative scientific podcasts/lectures/audio books/videos about the future of man and technology. [more inside]
If an alien located on a planet 100 light years from here was to switch on a big, multi-frequency radio receiver, and record all the noises coming from outer space for the next hundred years, on all frequencies, how many soap operas, advertisements and new broadcasts would they pick up from Earth? Would a mass-market radio, similar to our Earthly equivalents, pick up anything? Over time, as the number of Earth transmissions increases exponentially, would the alien pick up a cacophony or a damp fizzle? [more inside]

What are good examples of the way normal people take technology and devices and repurpose them in a way the manufacturer didn't dream of? (e.g. using in car CD player as cup holder, or the spin cycle on a washing machine to soothe a baby) [more inside]
The seas are rising. Climate change has made it inevitable. I have a strange question... Assuming that world sea-level rises by 1 metre over the next hundred years - Would it be possible to cordon off a section of land, somewhere in the centre of a continent, and flood it to create an artificial ocean, thus reducing the consequences of the sea rise? Can anyone identify these cartoons? One about two poor kids who dream of a world made of food, then wake up to a feast in their kitchen. Another about a young couple at a future world/technology expo where they see instant houses, get groomed by robots, and ballroom dance? [more inside]
