Let's say that certain phases of my life were already written in a book 70 - 100 years ago by someone, who was either a futurist of a scifi-writer. Let's also say that there are people, who want to make sure - for some yet unknown reason - that I live through those phases and that my personality gets developed similarly to some character's personality in that book. The book would have been written a long time before I was born. Now, what kind of search engines and what kind of search strategies I should use to become sure that there actually is such a book? There might exists traces of revitalizing of the book, if the original writer didn't make good enough guesses about the future.
Young adult book about a future-seeing TV and a botulism scare. [more inside]
Does anyone remember a blog that went through and commented on a book published in the early 90s about the future of personal gizmos? Each section of the book featured a handheld gadget that was "coming soon," and each blog entry looked into what happened to it and why it did or didn't take off in the two decades since the book was published. Identify a book for my girlfriend please. Read in the mid 90's maybe had 'children' in the title. Sci-fi novel about children held captive with woman in a castle after being placed with her through a government forced foster system (children are lent out to childless people for one month). They survive nuclear meltdown and years after by being put into suspended animation. [more inside]
ID That Story: novel (novella? short story?) in which a man is standing in line. Pretty much the entire story is his experience while waiting in line. It's a future/dystopia story. The man is waiting in line to make a complaint. He falls in love with the girl in front of him, though she's not allowed to turn and look at him. It's a parable about overpopulation. It was probably written in the 60s or 70s. That's all I remember.
Help me find a series of illustrated children's hardcover books from the 70s/80s about the upcoming technologies of "The Future" [more inside]
When I was a kid, my local library had a great selection of illustrated books focusing on the hypothectical future of space travel, life in space stations, space craft, planetary exploration. Some were pretty far out, but the most memorable were kind of "2001" in their theme and a bit more serious. After several google missions, and a swing through amazon's used and rare books, I've come up pretty much empty handed. Anyone else out there remember flipping through these books and planning your first trip to mars? Titles, authors, links or any hint what so ever would be appreciated!
Could you suggest good visionary (realized or unrealized) architecture and urbanism books ? I'd be interested in well illustrated books. I can afford a 50 to 150 dollars book on that topic. I'd like to find things like that.
